Comments (8)Italian fig could be many things depending on where you bought it. Fig variety ID is sometimes possible if you post pictures of most common leaf shape and a ripe fruit whole and cut in half displayed with a quarter coin to give a sense of scale. Post both here and at figs4fun forum to get the highest chance of someone knowledgeable being able to ID. You can prune and shape the tree anyway you like and keep it as small as you want to be able to easily reach the fruit and to store it for Winter if you keep it in a pot....See MorePansies have discolored leaves
Comments (10)I'm very sorry, I should have thought to check your profile; however, most people don't seem to be in the habit of posting their locations there when they don't include it with their zone, or omit it from their question. It's also unfortunate that the agricultural agencies in California aren't responsive to people. If you want California-specific advice, you might try a California gardening forum. This one doesn't get enough traffic to pull in very many Californians, generally. The Florida connection happened in my mind because you mentioned the sandy soil -- this is a prevalent issue in parts of Florida and it is associated with nematode problems, which can be controlled through the (repeated) addition of organic matter. In that hot climate, soil organic matter is decomposed at a break-neck pace, so adding more of it regularly is necessary to obtain its benefits. In your cooler climate, I'd think you might be more lucky, if nematodes are indeed a problem for you. Your problem may be one thing, or several things, and if you can't find an answer from someone else you might just have to experiment a bit, or look harder. I understand your frustration, but snapping at those who try to help is not generally a productive exercise. Please try to be patient....See MoreFittonia growing WHITE (discolored) leaves??
Comments (6)Thx Blubs for posting here for us, appreciated. I used to grow this Fittonia in a Terrarium. Currently grow the larger leafed red veined one. Now, as to the mini, pale leaves, I've never seen that before. The leaves almost look bleached like too much sun. Did you increase the amount of light or place it in some direct sun? I said above I would not want mix w/ wetting agents for this, certainly not in a terrarium, it may make things too wet. That said, I can see that the older, larger growth is fine, neither too wet, nor too dry; perplexing. Does that MG mix also contain fertilizer? Are you fertilizing yourself? Beyond your responses, let's give this a few days for others to chime in. I don't see many Fittonia threads, so lets DO wait a couple of days & give folks a chance to see it....See Moregorbelly
