Has anyone ever ordered Hoyas from Iyares on eBay?

Has anyone ever ordered Hoyas from Iyares on eBay? If so how long did it take and did the plants arrive in good condition? I've sent messages to Iyares and they seem pretty friendly and ready to answer any questions I may have.

I have ordered from them a few times... Let me start by saying they were very eager to please and correspond with me. I live in WI and mail here takes FOREVER. It took a month or more for my orders to get here (with the exception of one order that took 2 weeks for some reason). All orders were packaged immaculately and the plants were HUGE. After a month of travel though the plants were rotting in the box. They were very kind to send replacements and I was able to salvage cuttings from everything except hypolasia (which is a pain in the fanny anyway). I think the more robust leaved species do best and anything with thin leaves is a gamble but I am always game to try! Hope this helps.

Ooof. Nice that they had you covered though. And out of curiosity, as I used to live in the UP, are you in Northern Wisconsin? I have shipped to the "banana belt" of your state without issue, but horribly delayed mail reminds me of home, hahah. Good to know about this vendor, I am always a little tense doing business with new vendors for the first time.

We've had a Miele washer for a bit > 10 years and have used nothing but Persil. When purchased, the model we chose was the one "larger size" sold. If I remember right it has a 5 kilo capacity instead of the very tiny 3.5 or so that they put out with their standard models. SO, it's bigger but still more like the smallish European size compared to other front loaders made for the American market. Our experience is that like American laundry products, the recommended amount per load shown on the Persil boxes is WAY too much. We use the concentrated Megaperls color (now called Color Gold), and either the non concentrated or concentrated (Megaperls) with oxy bleach for whites. I think the little scooper we use is a teaspoon but I'm not sure. It's small. We use 1 measure of concentrated grains for a full load and 1.5 of the non concentrated. If the load is dirtier than normal, we might sprinkle one third of a measure into the prewash slot, and if the load is less than full, we might use only 2/3rds in total. I just weighed one of our little scoops full of Megaperls and it contains 10 grams of the product. Rounding up to 15 grams (more than we average per load) and with a 3.2 kg box, that's over 200 loads for the $41 box. The box recommends using something like 3 times as much as we do and I can say from experience that's much more than is needed to do the job. We don't have little kids who play in the dirt so perhaps our loads aren't as dirty as what a very young family would have. But even when washing much dirtier than normal stuff, it always comes out completely clean and with a light fresh smell. Try using less, see what your experience is.

I asked my local agricultural department. To legally export from the US to any other country, a phytosanitary certificate must be submitted with the plant(s) sent, along with a declaration (for duty puropses). Why a NURSERY would not comply with federal regulations is beyond me. Sure, they could probably ship to you, and it might just even arrive to you, but it is not the right way to do business. An excerpt from Canada Customs: How does the CFIA respond to issues of non-compliance? The CFIA's authority to address non-compliance comes from the Plant Protection Act and Regulations, and the Seeds Act and Regulations as they relate to plant protection. Measures the CFIA can use to mitigate the risk of a non-compliant shipment include the following: ordering the shipment destroyed ordering the shipment to be returned to its origin or otherwise removed from Canada ordering a non-compliant shipment to be treated in Canada imposing a fine in addition to other measures listed above Where a shipment is inspected and determined to be non-compliant despite certification from the exporting country's national plant protection organization, the CFIA will send a Notification of Non-Compliance to the foreign national plant protection organization, so that it may take the appropriate corrective actions on certifying future shipments. This step is in addition to the mitigation approaches noted above. As the importer, you are responsible for all costs associated with bringing a shipment into compliance. If you do not achieve compliance, the shipment may be forfeited to the Government of Canada and disposed of.

Hi 3cats... just to offer friendly feedback on a point you made (I'm not arguing/lecturing and don't care what you do :) You seem to feel that because you are ok to wear leather that there would then be no reason to reject fur. There is a big difference which is why most people who wouldn't be caught dead in a fur will still wear leather. Yes, while it would be ideal to be leather free too, leather is a byproduct of the meat industry. No animal is suffering in order to provide you with a pretty coat, unless you are wearing exotics. That is unfortunately not true for most animals with pretty skin. If you care about animals or the message you are sending, perhaps you will want to consider a coat made of something that is also being raised for food.. then you can be as warm as you'd like but not sacrifice your values (if you didn't say you were sensitive to the issue, I wouldn't have bothered pointing this out). On the pricing issue.... my mother has a nice old mink that no one in the family has been willing to wear for at least 20 years. My sister brought it by a furrier last week and was offered $750 for it. They will obviously be selling it for more. So, I guess the prices do vary quite a bit. Cyn427, Thanks for that info. I didn't know it was possible to get down humanely if it wasn't eider down. I'll have to look into that because I try to make humane choices when it's an option. I have an eiderdown comforter and it's the most wonderful thing, albeit not inexpensive. On that note, 3Katz, if you want something warmer and lighter than fur, an eiderdown coat would be superior in every way. It may not fit into your budget though. There is no fur coat that could compare.

Do they offer EMS (or any other expedited) shipping? The cost sucks, but if you are getting some valuable (subjectively to you and / or objectively by price) plants, then I get the impression from people who have ordered from Thailand multiple times that paying for expedited shipping makes sense, statistically. I mean you might get lucky once or twice with the cheap snail mail shipping, but eventually the low probability of success catches up with you, and you get a mostly or completely dead box. :-(

honestly (and i'm just curious), y would you want to order from their ebay shop?

they don't sell anything that i haven't seen being sold by the u.s. retailers on ebay.

then the inflated price for a cutting, pricey shipping and the risk of receiving a dead product seems like it's not quite worth it.

each cutting is at least $20 plus $20 shipping. y not just buy directly through a retailer in thailand and get a larger quantity and choose from a selection of plants you haven't seen sold online by a u.s. retailer?
