1st bloom on my 6 year old plumeria seedling
This is my second seedling to bloom from the same seedpod, and the first one was white with yellow center. I have so many whites that I was not too excited with that one. I pretty much ignored this one because I never noticed a hint of an inflo. Well it finally bloomed today and I am pretty surprised. It has ruffled edges on the petals, and it is a smaller sized flower, but it smells great. When my seed pod came out 6 years ago, I had a bunch of stuff blooming like Musk Rainbow, Miami Rose, noid white and noid yellow. This plumeria gave me a false inflo two years ago, and it gave me 5 branches and is about 5 feet tall. It is now a keeper for me!!

Comments (6)Vera during the day the laundry room is pretty bright until about 2 or 3 in the afternnon as it is on the east side of the house so it gets the first light of day. The temp in there stays about 70 and occasionally a little warmer if I am doing lots of laundry but probably no warmer than 75 degrees. This is actually a slow growing shrub. Growing in a container it will stay smaller (2-3 ft. tall and about 2ft. wide) than if grown in ground (4-6ft tall and probably 3 ft. wide). Comments (6)They look good but I wouldn't keep them in a community pot and I would take them out of the peat. Keep the unrooted cutting's soil from getting wet until they have several good size leaves which is an indication that roots have formed. That goes for all the unrooted cuttings, regardless of the potting mix. Good luck this time. Hopefully next winter won't be so damn cold in FL!!!! Being in Tampa you'll still have to protect them from cold temps so I'd keep them in pots. You can sink the pots in the garden and lift them before the cold temps arrive. They've come back from the roots but if that keeps happening you'll never get blooms. Comments (9)Those warm temps and dry air are really encouraging the mites -- but they're encouraging flowers too! I have some plumerias under lights in the basement, and several are still blooming. I thought that by keeping the lights at under 11 hours they wouldn't bloom, but they are anyway. I'd rather they bloom in the summer. Perhaps the warmth (about 75 degrees) in combination with lights and no cool-down at night are keeping them blooming? Any ideas on how I can discourage blooming? I can't cool the room any more than it is. Do you think I should reduce the light period even more? What's frustrating is I have a seedling that has its FIRST INFLOS -- FOUR of them! Comments (16)Thanks Laura and Nancy! I've been watering the heck out of things since we hadn't had much rain until today. But I think it's the compost I bought from the Amish that has made things grow so well. Don't know precisely what's in it, but it even seems to discourage slugs, I've noticed. 7 years agoLatinLady, the seedpod that this seedling came from was on a white NOID plumeria. Sometimes I do see 6 petals, but it is rare. The rest of the blooms off of this seedling have all had 5 pedals.

And here is an updated photo of the seedling. It looks like more orange/yellow is coming out, maybe due to the heat. Also, this pic is in direct sunlight:
Here is a pic of Musk Rainbow, that has similar colors in similar areas on the petals (pink/orange/yellow). Maybe this is the father?
