WM range hoods: Kobe or Zephyr
Comments (6)The hood has seen plenty of action during all these years and it continues to work relatively well — no complaints about its ability to move air. Interesting that you’re asking about the lighting; about a year ago it started malfunctioning, sonetimes it’s dimmer, sometimes it’s even flickering. My guess is that the LEDs are just fine, it’s the supply that is going bad. If it becomes unbearable, I’ll either fix it or replace it with some other supply. Noise level wise, the fan still sounds like when it was brand new, although I can feel some vibration on the medium speed. Maybe a deep cleaning of the fan assembly is in order....See MoreISO feedback on Zephyr range hoods, please (x-post)
Comments (16)The duct cover for the Zephyr is 10.5" wide by 10.5" deep. Cat_mom's does look a bit beefier. I was thinking about doing the white oval glass tiles just under the cabinets and to the bottom of the hood, then having a light to medium blue paint behind the hood and above the cabinets. I probably shouldn't rush the hood decision with several months to go before project completion. I just hate to pass up a deal, LOL. As of yesterday, I have purchased the fridge column, range, steam oven and undercounter wine fridge, which will soon be sitting in our garage. We don't even have bids from contractors yet (other than custom cabinets), but we have to do the kitchen now. DH likes that I have at least made some decisions and we are more locked into my last design now that appliances of a certain size have been ordered. I have fallen in love with slabs of white quartzite with blue veining, although I will not purchase those until we have a GC and counter sub hired so I can get pricing and they can verify my counters will fit on the 2 slabs. I have been trying to schedule a meeting with the architect for the last few weeks so we can get revised drawings and move onto the bid phase. He seems to have lost some interest in the project since I didn't immediately accept his proposed layout of how our house should look....See MoreDoes anyone have any advice / experience with Zephyr Range Hoods?
Comments (17)We installed an under cabinet Zephyr in our lakehouse build 8 yrs. ago. It was our first experience with an outside venting hood and we were astounded at its efficiency vs. the OTR MW vents we'd had before. I use it all the time and it has never required servicing. Last year we installed a similar one in our remodel at home. I'm very pleased with that one, too. My style hoods are nothing special to look at, but they unobtrusively do the job with a minimum of noise. I'd have no hesitation going with another Zephyr or recommending one to a friend....See MoreReview of BlueStar 30" RNB and Zephyr Napoli Range Hood
Comments (5)I have a Bluestar 30" RCS v2 and a Zephyr Napoli 36" island hood (ZNA-M90CS). The stainless steel color match is very good. To my eye, they look as if they were made from the same batch of steel and brushed with the same tools and technique. I really love my Bluestar RCS but I have mixed feelings about the Napoli. It looks really nice but it is a lot noisier than I expected. Technically, the noise volume is relatively low and to spec -- ranging from about 40dB(a) to 66dB(a) depending upon the fan speed setting. The problem is not the noise volume, but rather, the quality/pitch of the noise. It is not the low frequency sound of air rushing through the baffles. It is a higher pitch whirring motor/fan sound right at ear level.. You can easily talk over it with normal conversation, but it is quite irritating to listen to. Also, as an island hood, its flat bottom capture area it is not very effective. If I place a steam kettle with its spout directly under the center of the hood (the baffles are 33" above the burner grates), a large portion of the rising steam hits the baffles and then just rolls around and up the sides of the hood to the ceiling. There is no effective storage volume below the baffles to capture and hold the effluent long enough for the air flow to completely exhaust it into the duct. In retrospect, I would rather have an island hood with an external blower and deep recessed, angled baffles....See MoreWhats InAName
