Comments (20)I want to put a follow up on this thread. The GE Monogram all fridge all freezer units we purchased are both giving us problems that, according to the independent service technician, are showing up in more and more older models. In other words as the units age they develop these issues. I guess we are "lucky" in that they happened while we were still in warranty. First, the fridge was getting moldy. Mold was growing on the walls, shelves and even condiment containers and other containers that potentially are in the fridge for a while. I am cleaning the fridge every weekend, spending a couple hours at a time on it. Turns out that GE considers this within normal functioning parameters as the fridge is still getting cold enough. It is also developing rust. According to the technician - there is no fix for this. Second, the freezer is growing BIG hunks of frost on the back wall and according to the same technician this is indicative of "something big about to happen" although he refused to elaborate. So now I have two built in, custom panelled appliances purchased with the intent that they last MANY years and which will now need to be replaced. Be warned - stay away or if you must go with this line - at least go in with your eyes open....See MoreQuestion for owners of Electrolux ICON all fridge & all freezer
Comments (7)rhome 410 -- thanks for your response and your kitchen looks fabulous! You have given me some hope that the ICONS may work for us too. In both cases (left of freezer and right of fridge) the "wall" is actually part of a cased opening, so our situation is somewhat similar to what you have with your freezer. But our "wall" is a bit deeper -- the plans call for these walls to extend about 17" beyond the face of the fridge/freezer. We could make the cased openings a little wider if we need to. Would you mind telling me the distance between the face of your freezer and the doorway that the freezer door opens into (you say it is "about a foot or more")? And I'm assuming you can get your freezer door open wide enough to remove bins for cleaning? You are correct that most other fridges/freezers would have the same problem, but I have found a set that would work for us and of course they cost a mint. The Sub Zero 700TR and 700 TF would require much less clearance, and they are also narrower (27" instead of 32") so I could bump the fridge to the left and freezer to the right without changing cased openings and have plenty of wall clearance. They are shallower too (24") which would be better for our layout. But for a $8,400 savings, I sure would like to make those ICONS work! The ICONS look great online and in your kitchen. My reservations were mostly based on my visit to our local dealer. The dealer was very unimpressive and could not even understand my question, much less answer it....See Moreelectrolux all fridge/all freezer
Comments (3)I have seen these in person with the trim kit and they look fantastic. Unfortunately for us, our budget demanded some trimming, so we decided not to spend the extra on the trim kits. The advantage of that will be that I will be able to reach the cabinet doors above them easier. We may raise them off the floor a bit...Just the amount of the cabinet toekicks to lessen the amount of dust and pet hair that usually collects under a fridge....See Moreneed help, new side by side fridge, freezer door doesn't open all
Comments (15)thanks for the input guys! i had pondered the idea of moving that whole wall of cabinets to the right, but realized in doing that the stove would move. i can only move stove a couple of inches to the right (make that 2'), and still be able to fit my waist inside the corner without hip-checking the stove every time. What i really need to be able to completely open the freezer door (past the first point where the door holds it self open) as i can the refrigerator door. That requires 5 3/8'. I have 3/4' i can gain just by tightening up the 12' base cabinet closer to the stove, add another 2' by shifting all the cabinets to the right, but i'm still short 2 1/2'. These cabinets are 14 yrs old, i know i cannot get doors for them anymore, i've tried both lowe's and home desperate, so i'm thinking if i can find a carpenter to make them 9', and move everything down to the right, i might be able to hit it! I cannot modify the opening as the last poster was correct, it's a 8' tall patio door. Find a pic of how far (little actually) the door opens (while resting on the glass of the patio door) Here is a link that might be useful:...See Morecpartist
