I need an area rug (8 x 10') -- color??

Just replaced the couch in this long room (55'x15'). WHEN we next paint, will probably put "divine white" on walls for more contrast. However, I like the "light" look, but wondering what color 8x10' area rug to get for in front of sofa

. Table has gray iron chairs & base, but afraid gray will be too boring. Need to be price conscious ... have looked at shag rugs at home improvement stores ... see picture. Not sure if multi-color looks too "old" or works with the floor. Comments?? Also could reupholster chairs in the near future ... NOTE: Ignore the red pillows; used to have red accents, but wish to go Florida neutral light now. Wondered about a green, as outside has so much of it (sorry not real visible from pictures).

The sofa is a rather modern look to it! I would consider a wild print with all the colors of the room in the pattern. I also think a 9 x 12 might be a better choice as the room is very large and the larger carpet might be a better scale.

Here are suggestions for style of rug only.....you need to go rug shopping and find three that you think you like, bring home on approval, and then lay them out one on top of each other and see what you think....it truly can be trial and error. Just find rugs that have some of your room colors in them.....

Some caramel to blend with floor; very fluid

It’s adorable the way it is. Do not buy an area rug + leave the gold paint. Two shag white square pillows on sofa to repeat the flooring.

Hi again,,,well, We decided to buy a different greenhouse instead of messing with the hfgh,,,I decided it was not going to be big enough. We purchased a 17 x 32 gothic style greenhouse from Griffins. I have had 2 of their models in the past when I had a greenhouse business. I had the 17x48, 2 of them. I don't need one that big, so I went with the smaller one this time. Ceanothus Joyce Coulter is a low-growing variety that could fill much of that square. Have you thought about going to Las Pilitas Nursery? I think it's in San Diego County. It may not be far from you. If nothing else, you could look at their website for pictures. They have lots of information about drought tolerant plants. I have never been there, but have gotten good info on the website.

Hi. Without a picture its a little hard to tell. Is this rug over wood/stone floors or carpet? If the 86" sofa is centered on the 10' side of the rug then it sounds like the bay window chairs are about 5' from the end of the sofa. Too far for one conversational grouping - in which case they are another grouping and the bare floor is fine. But if they are supposed to be part of the same seating group they ought to be partially on the rug. Maybe try the 9x12 (its ok if the sofa is all the way on the rug) and pull those chairs a bit closer off the wall.

Thanks so much for comment. I did decide to leave the gold paint ... but did get a jute rug which I really like! Haven't done anything about pillows yet, and may follow your tip with white. Also considering a lighter neutral for the chairs down the road ...
