Need help with this long, narrow, small, ugly bathroom
Comments (24)That's my favorite too. I just love the turquoise. I think you need to go big or go home. Turquoise paint (like the yellow walls with grey tile picture). Turquoise main color for the rug. Turquoise with yellow and white for the shower curtain. Since you're keeping the sink and faucets, you need to work some grey in the room. I would be tempted to find the shower curtain first, and pull the colors from it. Here are a few examples. Bed Bath and Beyond: More aquamarine, than turquoise: Just ran across this bathroom: Sears: Amy Butler designs/makes some great fabrics you could make into shower curtain: Waverly at Joann's Fabric Guru is a great source for inexpensive yardage: Here is a link that might be useful: Fabric Guru...See MoreNeed some bathroom layout help.
Comments (19)The original 2nd master bath layout makes the best use of the space and allows the most privacy for the toilet area of all the layouts you've posted. The view from outside the bathroom is also nice of the vanity. Like others have said that shower would be awesome. With the size of that shower, you could even make it curbless and doorless if you squared off the angled side. On the other bathroom--moving the doorway should be no problem if the sheetrock isn't up yet. I think you could use the 3rd layout, shift the door over toward the W/D as far as possible and then I think you could just fit in a vanity to the right of the window & toilet to the left of the window. The door swing would flip for it opens toward the W/D. My aunt & uncle have that setup in their kids bath and it works great for them. I would definitely go with a 36" wide vanity in the 11x9 bath that will be used by your son/guests. Even a boy has toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, hair gel, cologne, razor, shave cream, etc to store, not to mention the items overnight guests bring along. Plus there is a little more counter space. We have 2 boys (each have their own bathroom). That's how I know just how much stuff a boy has. We opted for 36" vanity with the sink centered to allow for 2 drawers on either side (perfect size for hairbrush, hair gel, toothbrush, tooth paste & razor) with a double door cabinet underneath--plenty of room for extra towels/washcloths, extra toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc. A 24" vanity doesn't allow for drawers, has only a skinny cabinet underneath and there isn't a decent amount of counterspace to speak of. Hope this helps!...See MoreIs 3/4" marble enough for an undermount sink bathroom vanity top
Comments (6)With kitchen counters that thick, I believe they face the counter with a layer of ply to support the stone. I wouldn't think that the sink would have problems with the thickness, the weight of the stone and the sink might make the slab crack if not supported across the vanity span. You could post this question over on the kitchen forum too....See MoreBathroom - Converting from double sink vanity to single
Comments (15)My master bath re-do began with a double vanity / sink combo in the bedroom with a toilet and walk in shower in a separate room off to one side and a gigantic roman tub in a separate (but not closed off with a door) area to the other side. The vanity was one of those oak front particle board pieces of garbage with a cultured marble double sink and one of those gigantic mirrors overall. The walk in shower (which began the whole re-do) leaked underneath (inaccessible, of course) and into the kitchen below. So. Now I have a toilet and single wall sink with cart instead of vanity in the room where the toilet and walk in shower was. The roman tub (which was too big to be filled by our standard sized hot water heater) is replaced with a freestanding tub and shower combo (shower curtain all around) with easy-access plumbing (i.e. easy to spot leaks). In the center area that is part of the bedroom is just a freestanding mirror and a hanging plant under the skylight. Very minimal, clean, private. There is a little "ledge" under the free-standing floor mirror covering the plumbing that ran across the floor to the tub. This is reflected also by the ledge in the bathtub/shower area that was always there. It also prevents bashing into the unframed but beveled mirror with the vacuum cleaner. I know this is a lot to picture so I will try to come back with photos later. We are still doing some painting. It always seemed icky to me to have sinks in the bedroom and stupid to have a shower separate from the tub. Capping the lines from the double vanity and converting the shower plumbing to sink plumbing was fairly quick and easy (took a plumber less than an hour). I would suggest you hire a professional for the plumbing and do the rest of the job yourselves if you are wanting to go the diy route....See Moreloves2read
