New lawn help

Hello, looking for some input on my new lawn. Just moved into this house about four weeks ago. It was a foreclosure that had been sitting for about 18 months, and obviously the lawn was neglected. I am in Florida, the lawn has st. Augustine grass, but the lawn is mostly weeds. There are also some spotty areas with just dirt. So far I have done a light application of milorganite, which greened up the lawn immensely after two weeks. I just put a second application down yesterday.

I bought a diy soil test kit form the hardware store which shows everything fine except for depleted nitrogen

As to the questions I see kimmq ask: the ph appears normal. I did the jar test and I only got two layers: sand which settled dark to light, and a layer which might be clay? When I dig, the soil feels like there is clay, and I often see some white clay pockets. There appears to be no organic material. The soil at the surface feels a little better, more like potting soil, but this test came from 6-8 inches. The lawn seems to hold water a lot, I have two areas that pool water when it rains hard. I tried the drainage test, but the first filling of water stayed for 2+ hours, however it had rained recently. As to life, I haven't seen any worms in digging several holes.

At this point I'm just looking to increase the organic matter, all I can find in my area is alfalfa pellets and cracked corn. I also just tried vinegar on some of the weeds, so we'll see how that goes.

Any suggestions for getting rid of my weeds and getting the St Augustine growing in are appreciated!
