I think what you want is BM Balboa Mist (which I recently saw in person, new house build, and is gorgeous)

I haven't seen Going to the Chapel in real life, but on my monitor it looks much less yellow than the Linen white, and much cooler. Some of the pics my search turned up of rooms purporting to be painted with Going to the Chapel look full-on gray, although more of them lean to greige.

From what you said you are looking for, it seems like it would be a good choice. BUT, as with all paint choices, it depends hugely on your lighting, which depends on where you live and how you home is oriented and a bunch of other factors. So don't take my word for it--you need to test a swatch in your own space.

I'm sorry, I should clarify- it turns out my living room is painted Going to the Chapel (I thought it was Linen White), but it's still yellowish. I was discussing repainting with my painter and am wondering what color to go with that would be cooler, but similar.

My living room is open to the kitchen. Windows are east facing from the kitchen, and west in the living room. The lighting makes everything look warmer than it is.

Balboa mist looks like it may be a good choice. Any other ideas? I want to test out a few this weekend and see if it's worth it to repaint.

Tibbrix - does the Bruton White take on a green appearance in any of their rooms? I'm looking for a good neutral. Some that I've looked at read slightly green in my house.

torrey, not at all. At least not in their house. If you would like, I think I'll be seeing them on Monday and the painting has been done. I can get back to you after seeing the actual finished product. Their painter had put large swatches of it on different walls and up against the trim. Really gorgeous. Way better than Edgecomb Gray, btw, which does have a green tint to it.

What I saw of the Bruton White/Balboa Mist was just a beautiful creamy perfect blend of gray and beige.

Going to the Chapel also looks yellow. Is it a cool color or warm?

Per the color's spectral data, it is a cool color.

Cool or warm is a matter of context. Going to the Chapel could be either depending on the contents in the room. Looking at the paint chip all by itself, you can't really answer if it is a cool color or a warm color.

However, we can answer the question objectively by putting the color in context of a notated color space (or two). Put the color in context of a color space based on its intrinsic characteristics, like hue family, and you can determine its temperature from an intrinsic, spectra data point of view.

There are two ways to do that. The first way is you can look the color up on easyrgb.com and look up the CIE L*c*h values for the color, h = hue angle (illustrated below). And then use this color wheel to see what hue family the hue angle indicates and ALSO what side, warm or cool, of the hue family the color falls.

I plotted both the L*c*hº hue angle of 103º and the hue/value/color notation, 7.22 Yellow / 9 Value / 0.8 Chroma, for Going to the Chapel on the special color wheel so you can easily see its hue family and color temperature in context of the Munsell and CIE L*c*hº color spaces. The two data points, the hue angle and the HVC notation, don't match up exactly when plotted on the wheel. That's normal and to be expected. All is well as long as they are within a reasonable range of each other, which as you can see, they are.

torrey, no matter what you do, of course get a sample can first, and paint large swatches, right up against trim, behind furniture, etc., and on each wall and look at it at different times of day by making a frame with your hands.

I know this is an old thread, but I disagree that Going to the Chapel is a cool color. Lori, your color explanation was very interesting and helpful, but what the wheel shows is that within each color, there is a cooler and a warmer side, a cool red and a warm red, etc. Your plotting of Going to the Chapel puts it on the cool yellow side. And although yellow is technically a neutral color, most people perceive it as warm. So, for all intents and purposes, I would say that it reads as a cooler yellow, but still to the warm side of neutral.
