Figs and Wine in Staten Island Article in WSJ
Comments (2)Jose thanks for the tip. Looked up the place's web site and it's located close to a friend of mine that I visit once in awhile. I called him and told him about the place and to check it out. Will visit and have a meal there. My friend told me that that name is very common in Staten Island. Comments (10)I knew about pillow cases , but when I tried wrining one out , to squeeze the juice out to the last drop ,the pillow case ripped. So muchy for those .. My nyon ( bought new at dollarama ) worked great.. Another thing I found is when I dumped the 16 cups of nanking cherries that were boiled etc. into the nylon, I only got a bit of juice , but the next 16 cups I scooped into a sieve and caught the juice below , then set the pulp aside , I poured all the juice that had come trhough the sieve ( pulp removed ) into a nylon and got at least 4 times the juice. I think the pulp when not first strained , is to much mass for the inside juices to find their way out of the bag.. Anyway it seems that way.. I have let the juice sit for a few days and the sediment settled at the bottom. nice and clear on top.. I'm thinking of drawing the clear off with a turkey baster thing.....See MoreLazy rainy day questions
Comments (21)Susie I concur with some of the others, got to the doctor ASAP. Both my folks had terrible bouts with shingles in areas you describe. Mom said it felt like something was rubbing aginst her skin irritating it. Better safe than sorry. As for bamboo, I am just not crazy about it, but if you like the look, be sure and go for the clumping kind. The spreading kind is a beast, I don't care what anyone says about "controlling" it! I teach about controlling it and I don't think you want to spend your free time in the yard fussing with your bamboo, do you? Maybe you just love it and don't mind, but otherwise I would think twice about it, it's not carefree. I planted a wild rose bush against my fence. It grew fantastically, and soon I was NOT very popular with my neighbors as my wild rose runners invaded her garden. And it was constant maintenance to keep them out of my own beds in areas I didn't want rose bush. The suckers seemed to invade almost overnight. A week or two off and I had to go to war to re-establish my borders. To me, it's just not worth it. There are lots of options for a living fence. That said, I don't know anything about the clumping kind. I'd try and check some out at Morris Arboretum or Longwood Gardens or some such place. Here' an article on the bamboos from that "You Bet Your Garden" guy from Philly. Sounds like they might have some at Fairmount Park although I have no idea where. Comments (108)No, I'm afraid I'm the last. Saw that word "engagement" on conversations and didn't have time to go looking for this thread till now. I go away for a few days and people win contests and get engaged and I miss all the excitement. So happy for you. It has been great following your romance from your hesitation about the 1st date to such an awesome proposal. I think a year is perfect. Not everyone needs the 20 years Norm and I took to tie the knot. (On the other hand there's a lot to be said for no surprises!) Wishing you both a wonderful year of romance leading up to the virtual wedding of the century!...See Moregothiclibrarian
