Space over MBR bath tub - mice!!

guys

At the back of my bath tub, the installer did a shoddy job by not covering the holes for the electrical wiring - we've seen mice droppings there. Unfortunately, the hole is all the way to to the back and not accessible

I need some material to completely close out the top of the tub - what material should I be using for this? It has to be flexible as the material will be placed at the edge of the bath tub from the left side in the pic all the way to the back right It's about a 7 inch gap

Sorry, no holes are shown in the photo. That isn't a bathtub, it is a shower. (Not that it makes any difference.) It looks like you have tile in the wall. Did the hole get created after the tile was installed? If the hole is not visible when standing on the floor, I would get up there and stuff steel wool in the hole in the wall, assuming you are talking about less than 3 inches wide.

The tile is on the side walls - not the ceiling over the jacuzzi shower. The ceiling is simply drywall and won't help seeing the hole because there is no way to get to it (5ft deep) to patch it up without removing the shower which is a lot of work. It's also a large hole (shoddy job done by jacuzzi installer). I need to patch up everything that is accessible to me by some flexible material and install this around the whole edge of the jacuzzi that you can see

I was all ready to say "get the 66" tub", but if it's only for the toddlers and you never use it, a case could be made for the large sink/small tub setup. If it were for you, I'd choose a small but elegant 24" sink and go with the larger tub. Maybe it's a good idea even if it's just for the kids. Something like a vessel sink vanity (pic below) takes up only 24" of width, but has plenty of storage space, and you and everyone else who sees it will think "wow, nice sink!" instead of "gee, the sink is too small". If you're on a smaller budget, Ikea's Hollviken or sinks look and work great, and cost under $100. Another good option is a which makes the sink feel much wider than it is by extending over the toilet. Get one of these, and every time you stretch out luxuriously in your 66" tub, you'll be glad you didn't get a 30" sink....

Thanks, I have found some good information on the web, including some anchors for the drywall...but I think the stud is the answer. In my case I has access to the other side of the wall as it is in the space over my 2 car garage. This is unfinished space and the wall has insulation but no dry wall on the over-garage side. It seems it is also possible to reach the recommended 360 pound strength by simply backing the wallboard up where the screws come through. Lag bolts and "wing nuts" were suggested, but as I have access to the other side I can put in a wood backing. Now with bad luck I could find the best placement puts the holes right on the edge of a stud. Drilling through tile is also a new one for me, not sure a masonry bit will cut through the glaze - may need a special bit. What size screws did you drive into the studs? I'll see what is recommended/provided by the bar suppliers.

It doesn't matter how old the thread is when it is the first thing that pops up on a Google search when looking for the answer to this question.....And then, someone repeats this kind of nonsense on a new thread "A bathroom has a bath tub. It's legalese. It's not a "full bath" without a bath tub." I found this gem first thing, while looking up the reference to this exception where New York doesn't require a bathroom AT ALL. §RR306.1 Toilet facilities. Every dwelling unit shall be provided with a water closet, lavatory, and a bathtub or shower. Exception: Owner-occupied one-family dwellings subject to the approval of the code enforcement official. "NYS has several modification to allow construction of owner-occupied single family homes that have minimal technology, and may heat with wood or other renewable source of energy. This language allows, for instance, construction of Amish residences with little electricity (other than battery operated smoke & CO alarms) and with outhouses rather than bathrooms. Hunter camps may have a similar minimalist construction. "Isn't it funny how so many who have the tubs never use them yet when people look for a home they love seeing a jet tub in the master bath? Is it just the "thought" of that magificent soak we all wish for but never take that puts in our minds that we must have the tub?" Ditto with all the chef kitchens with professional ranges. In my area, hardly anybody cooks in their chef kitchen because everybody is too busy. OP renovates for resale, i.e. bang for the buck, which isn't necessarily primarily for functionality.

What is on the other side of the two walls that form the back of the shower? Is there another room or rooms there? Or is there an outside wall?

And, if you stuck your hand in behind that top ledge, how much space is there - 3 inches maybe? Or is it completely flat, so that your fingers can't go down? And how high is the space above the top ledge?

I would call the manager of the jacuzzi company and tell him/her the situation. Request that someone come out and finish the job properly. If they refuse, you can mention Yelp.
