2009 ARS Roses in Review Survey
Comments (12)Karl is right, as usual. We opened the survey up to anyone some time back. There are plenty of non-ARS members who grow roses and can do a good job of evaluating them, so why not get the advantage of their experience? By the way, we also have posted the results for the last several years on the ARS website so anyone can see them. It seems only fair that if we are going to ask non-members to report, they should be able to see the results. When you are using the online survey and you accidently hit the wrong name, you can just go back to the list and pick the right one. The system will remind you that you didn't file a report for the last one, but it will let you move on without it. Decobug, if the list of your reviews show Alan Titchmarsh, but without any ratings for it, we will drop it. If it does show a rating that you don't want, give me your name or email address and we'll delete it....See More2011 Roses in Review Survey
Comments (5)Thanks, Diane. Since a number of the roses are brand new to my garden, I want to watch and see how they do over the summer, so I'll fill mine out in early September....See More2007 Roses in Review Survey is Available!
Comments (24)I think Paul's getting that stuff because he was a President, not because of RIR. My DH was President of our local society at one point. We haven't even been members of that society for at least 6 years, but we, too, still get all that claptrap. At one point, I went to the point of calling both ARS and the American Kennel Club, to request in person that they not include us on any member lists that they sell. Both assured me, hand on heart, that they do not and will not do that. BOSH. The ads keep on coming. But rest assured, ARS is NOT the only culprit, and I suspect you would have the same problem with almost any member group, these days. Jeri...See More2013 Roses in Review Survey
Comments (9)Diane - I am just ignorant, so if I should know the answer to this question I apologize. Question: Does the ARS have any plans to collect REGIONAL Roses in Review type data? Those of us who live in, for example, a Mediterranean climate in California would like to know which roses do well here, period, as we do not garden all over the country. We know that some roses which are disease prone here (rust, for example) are clean elsewhere, and visa versa - no black spot here, and covered with it elsewhere. Also, of course we do not care whether roses are "cold hardy", as we have very few nights of frost at all. A rose could very well be a 10 here, and a 3 on the East Coast, so I really do not see any worth in trying to rate roses all over simultaneously - the data is really not of much use. Just my opinion.
