Your Favorite Distance Between Countertop and Window Sill?-Pic
Comments (5)I have been reading these posts for a while and love looking at sink areas. Firstly, I LOVE windows!!! I love the sunlight in my home, not sure if others feel the same. One thing I've really noticed is that the pics that have there kitchen windows LOW (to the counter top) are BEAUTIFUL! You have light at the sink area, no shadows. It seems to make them sparkle. All my previous kitchens have had the windows approx 6" or so above the counter and it was just OK :( But to have the light and be able to see outside more is the way I would go. I still get a bit of water splashes on my windows as it is, so that wouldn't deter me either. It just feels so open. I'm only 5'3" so that is also a factor : )Granted, you won't be able to do the dishes naked LOL. If and when that choice comes for me........I'm going with more light & a more open feeling : ) Hopefully ppl will post some pics so you can see....See MoreDistance between counter & cabinets?
Comments (5)I've had between 16" and 18". It's only a problem, I think, if you have a mixer or blender, or something else that you want sitting out on the counter that won't fit underneath. The other thing to consider is if you want undercabinet lighting. If so, you'll want to allow room for that, and I would imagine that the higher it is, the broader area it will light. Also, some people like to put kind of an apron in front of the undercabinet lighting, which decreases that space....See Moredistance between upper and lower cabinets
Comments (13)Most of mine are 18 - one is 16 1/2 I think. The shorter one is related to the microwave being on a shelf - so it could be lower - the lower cabinetry was lowered a bit too but the space in between is still a bit shy of the 18. The shorter space is where I keep my coffee maker, grinder, paper towel. Otherwise I don't have much on my counters though I do have a small TV in a different area. The shorter space is working fine for me but I think you do have to carefully consider what you're going to want on your counters. I've been looking at new coffee makers and some of those babies are quite tall - probably too tall for my shorter space. On a side note, I have 42" tall upper cabinets so lots of space I can't reach even at 5'5". I keep a little turtle stool under my sink (folded takes very little space) so I have something within easy reach when I need to get to the top shelves....See MoreDistance between window and upper cabinets?
Comments (1)No hard and set rules, depends on all kinds of things but in the end it’s usually aesthetics. You can always post plans and elevations if you want further advice....See MoreJeff Johnson
