ATTN: Gurus. Line drying towels.

So today I dragged an older wooden clothes rack to attempt drying some white towels outside in order to reduce our electric bill. Im not so concerned about the "sun bleaching" since they are mostly all white, but rather the stiffness. I threw them in the dryer for a maximum of 5 minutes before putting them "on the line". Afterwards, they were quite stiff and more cardboard like. I used line 1 of Tide HE turbo powder, line 2 of Downy, and Hot water whites cycle with 3 rinses in the Duet. About 12 towels in total. Are there any suggestions for the next wash in order to keep them softer? THANKS!
