Remodeling our Kitchen - Should we use IKEA?
Comments (19)LOVE this system! fitted a bank of wall cabinets in a bathroom nook -- installation was crazy-easy, and I'm loving the clean, simple look. And, those soft-close drawers. Finishing up the kitchen now (another EASY install), and I'm loving the soft, almost-matte finish of the white Veddinge doors even more. Knocked out the old plaster soffit (no ceiling repairs, thanks to the add'l depth!), taking the cabinets to the ceiling. The space looks so much larger! And, I'll bet we've got (at least) 50% more storage thanks to their drawers and clever fittings -- without adding an inch to the footprint! P.S. My sister installed an Akurum kitchen nearly 15 yrs ago -- everything still looks and works like new....See MoreShould we change our cabinet layout in open kitchen/living room/nook?
Comments (2)I can't save your screen shot (?), so I did a quick estimation of the kitchen space, using as much of the existing layout as possible. I put the fridge near the dining nook, but that wall could be flipped, with the fridge next to the DR. That would keep the clean-up area completely separate from the prep/cooking areas, but the DW door would open partially against the end of the peninsula: Everything on the clean-up wall flipped: The black arrow is for corner storage that's accessed from the back of the cabinet. Or it could be accessed from the FR side, and since you have a table nearby, the peninsula could be extended over a run of cabinets, to increase storage and make up for the lost pantry and hanging cabs. I gave you a KW mixer. :) Back with one more--if the door to the formal DR could be moved to the hallway, the range wall could be extended, and a wide island with prep sink would work. Except for storage in the middle, drawers in the second run of cabinets in the island would have easy access from the ends. Optional upper cabs beside of range hood. (Contingent on the hood being vented as in the current kitchen.) If anyone else wants to borrow this plan to experiment, please feel free....See MoreHELP! What color should we paint our kitchen cabinets to go with floor
Comments (12)paint the uppers only, a white or mushroom....[putty]…..I think the bottom cabinet area will work with the floor then. The layer of wood cabinetry on the walls is very "heavy" , visually.....regardless of what floor exists. A change at eye level[walls] will change things in a big way. And the wood cabinets lower down will actually be good, as an "anchor" for your space. And get some runners/mats. You lack base drawers..at some point a replacement will come into your discussions..... so extra trouble of painting them isn't worth it....See MoreKitchen dealer didn't place our order. What should we do?
Comments (1)OMG! and these were the people you were calling all the time. I'm glad you are going to bargain hard. Remember the negotiating rule: say what you want and then stop talking! Don't let them offer you free add-ons or anything that has no value to you. I'd also want them to tell me how they are going to earn back my trust....See Moresheloveslayouts
