3' or 4' pull for 18' drawer? And 1 or 2 pulls for 26.5' drawer?
Comments (12)We have 2 pulls on the cabs that are 30 or wider and 1 pull on everything else. I find that with the smooth operation of our cabs that having 2 pulls is nice. I can reach a pull from either side of the drawer and never use 2 pulls at the same time. It helps if you have a few people in the kitchen at the same time, esp for the 36" wide drawers. I also like the double pull look better on the wide and deep drawers. Most don't do a 4 stack of drawers that wide, so I am not sure how a single pull would work in that instance. These are 30" wide drawers with 2 pulls. I can't picture them with only 1. Notice that neither pull is very far from the center:...See More1 or 2 Pulls per large (36' & 39') drawer??
Comments (11)Hi, Thanks for weighing in everybody! This is a tough one for me. My gut says that if I stay with these pulls that I should go with 2 just b/c of the size. Or I could pick a longer pull (mostly bar type, pretty, but a bit more modern than the look I'm going for) and go with one ---which seems like it'd be cleaner looking. . . buehl -- thanks for this advice! I'm going to ask the GC about the type of glides. Unfortunately my sweet cab guy has some medical issues, so I can't call him about this. florantha & jakebedy - this is a good point. With this size pull I will be stretching across. marcydc: thanks to your comment I relooked at the number of drawers in my plan and have 4 large drawers which people will see readily, and 4 large on the island facing the aisle, which people won't really notice, so I should be ok looks wise if I go with 2/drawer. bfenton & breezy: I found these pulls here in some gorgeous kitchen photos -of course!- and then ordered samples and love them -- even more than the RH Bistro pulls I started out wanting....See MoreAdvice please: One pull or two on 36-inch drawers?
Comments (12)I've had a longer bail pull on a pot drawer before. As an adult, I *knew* to not pull on it from the side or mishandle it. However, in my home, then of four children...some teens that were in a hurry, mispulled and eventually the handle slipped out of the socket and it was a problem forevermore. In my 36" desk drawer front there are two 5.5" bail pulls. It works great and looks proportionate. I decided to use two handles on my wider drawers in my kitchen. I'd show you but we're literally doing glazing on my doors today and they're not installed right now. Just consider 'who' will be using the drawers and how much weight will be in those drawers before you decide on one pull or not. I would opt for two pulls. People can't use them if they're not there....See MoreHow to do drawer pull son 36" wide drawers?
Comments (15)Seems to me the objections to having two pulls on kitchen cabinets is more a traditional situation than functional one. Remember, many bedroom dressers have double handles(yes, I am aware the drawers are also wider) and are considered normal. Some of the objections also may have to do with how the person is working, often having something in one hand when opening a drawer for a pot/pan/skillet/etc. One example of this is the French door refrigerator. Transitioning from a single door(conventional or side by side) means changing the way the fridge is opened with something in a hand. Another situation is the way the drawers are built and how the glides are installed. Many newer drawers are not built as sturdily as they used to be and will rack more easily. Drawers with through dovetail construction are much more sturdy than half lap or similar style corner joints, which rely on glue and mechanical fasteners to make the joint. By the same measure, many glides are easier and smoother operating than older types. For myself, I'd rather have two pulls on a wide drawer then one big one. Esthetics....See Moresarahbr2
