The Floor tile is from Arizona tile: http://www.arizonatile.com/Assets/ProductImages/M/Misingi_Suber_464x464.jpg I think the combination of the taupe floor tile and the porcelain marble tile is the most stunning part of the bathroom. Though some might argue that we should have used mosaic in the bottom of the shower floor but I chose "form over function" for this. With the grab bars which I definitely use because I don't have good balance, I haven't fallen. There is a spray you can purchase on Amazon for tile or other possibly slippery surfaces that can be used if you want to be sure it is less slippery. My tile guy recommended it if i needed more traction. Maybe when I get a bit older, I will apply it for more safety. The size of the shower is one of the best parts of the remodel. 5ft X 5ft is the official size that allows one to say their shower fits the ADA standard. We didn't size ours for that reason but it turns out, it really is the perfect size for us. I love how when you are showering, all sides can be reached without moving too far yet there is still a nice feeling of spaciousness. Some of the pictures I posted in another thread may give you a better idea of the bathroom. Here Also, as I have mentioned in several other threads on GW, not having a shower door has turned out to be so wonderful and enhances the shower experience greatly. We had our contractor build the walls so we could add a shower door if we decided we wanted one but as it turns out, that is the VERY LAST THING we would ever want. Ceramic tile is known to do stuff like this (tenting) because it is slightly porous. Porcelain tile has LESS chance of tenting because its porosity is extremely low - almost impervious to moisture. It is much lower than ceramic. And yes, it can take as much as 10 years for a "bad" install to show itself in wet conditions. It can take that long to get the tile so wet that it's expansion is so great it breaks the bond of the adhesive. And yes...cut back adhesive is a poor substrate to bond to (for the Original Poster). Both of these photos (OP and andreadell79) are complete redos. Once a section starts to tent, you have to assume the WHOLE THING is going to go to he!! in a hand basket. Hi Amy-- Sorry for the bad link. I think I fixed it below. Sadly, my pics don't give you the best representation of the color. Probably the closest is in picture #2, and the Walker Zanger catalog is pretty close to true as well. The green is more muted than bottle green, like a lighly grayed sage. And I have really come to love the subtle iridescence (that originally was a compromise for my husband). In most light, you don't see it, only when a ray of direct sunlight hits... since you're familiar with Oceanside glasstile, you probably know what I mean. We used Laticrete grout in Lichen and then we found Lutron outlet covers that matched the tile color perfectly (installed after my pics were taken). Anyway, your cabinets, Icestone and design are gorgeous. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices you are mulling. Good luck! I totally understand your hesitation about cement/encuastic tiles. I fell in love with a Cle tile (Zenith white with black lines) and even ordered a sample of 4 last year. The samples already have smudges on them; that old-world patina would drive me bonkers. I have found a porcelain hex in black and white that may work, so I have been all over the internet looking for graphic/geometric styles. They are hard enough to find in black and white! I was wondering if you can find white tiles and blue tiles from the same mfg, same thickness and finish and then have them cut and installed in a random pattern. Is it the HEX you are liking so much or the idea of a random geometric pattern across the floor? Or, you could contact Clay Products in Austin, Tx. They make a special order hex tile dipped on one side like your photo with black, terra cotta and yellow. They might make you a custom blue. And thanks. In all this research I see Clay Products make a clay tile version of the Cle Zenith cement tile I covet. Hmmm.. I will have to check on this. The FAQ for Clay Products states they will do custom work!
