Young cucumbers turning yellow

anyone know why my little cucumbers are turning yellow? The seeds are hybrids so it cant be because of pollen. The cucumbers are in a shade house.

Don't know where you are but since you're a commercial grower you should contact your local Agricultural Department office as they'd probably give you the best advice. It's probably a mineral deficiency so a soil test would help and a list of which fertilisers you have used.

I can see from the pictures that there are healthy cucumbers on the same plant. I have the same issue in my garden. In nearly every plant I have, I have 1 healthy cucumber which is already 4"-6" long. But each plant also has 1-3 cucumbers which turn yellow after reaching 1"-2.5". My plants are mostly smaller (8"-25" tall) at this stage.

Some people say it may be due to over watering. I do water them everyday. But we have no rain here and I estimate each plant gets around 300ml of water each day. The surface soil is completely dry when I water. In a few occasions, I check the soil at 1" depth. It has some moist but it's nowhere close to be water logged. Besides, if it's due to over watering, shouldn't it affect all the cucumbers on the same plant?

As with the pictures above, I don't see any issues with my cucumber leafs.

Appreciate if you could update me on your findings.

Inadequate/insufficient pollination (aka fruit abortion). A common problem when grown in greenhouse where insect-vectored pollination is difficult. There is a FAQ here about how to hand pollinate. Some plants will also abort fruit when they become overly stressed. For example you have several cukes there that are clearly ready for harvest if not going past ideal harvest. Leaving fruit like that on the vine stresses the plant. It can only support so many fruit at one time and begins to shut down if not kept picked. Agree. leaf miners. They don't pose any real threat to the plants. As mentioned just remove the leaves and/or squish the worm. As for the yellow bottom leaves, that is usually from over-watering, a common problem when using containers as you are. Since nutrients leach out of the pot every time you water you need to replace them regularly and make sure your water pattern is one of consistency - not too much and not too little. Plus there is clearly lots more room in your pot for more soil. The more soil in the container the easier it is to stabilize the watering. Why the epsom salts? Potting mix isn't normally low in magnesium and that is the only benefit one gets from E. salts. You don't mention which Dr Earth product you used and they make many but if I recall correctly they are all organic blends. Great for a in ground garden with active soil bacteria but won't work at all well in containers as there is no soil bacteria in potting mix to digest it so the plants can use it. You need to use a water soluble fertilizer of some type, something the plants can actually benefit from quickly. There are many brands available both synthetic and organic. They very likely need a good feeding and if they were like this before you transplanted them then they likely have needed some nutrients or some time. Dave
