planning winter storage for 2009 potatoe crop
Comments (1)Well, you can't have too much leaves on them, I'd say. Sounds like it might be too exposed to air and wind. The best storage method I've used for potatoes is the simple hole in the ground, covered with leaves and a piece of wood. They come out even in late spring completely fine....See MoreWhat are your storage plans for your master closet(s)?
Comments (68)I love seeing your closets!! We have his and hers closets in the master, and I'm not satisfied with them (and we haven't even moved in yet). Our trim carpenter suggested a simple layout for rods and shelves, which looks great. Then I asked for shoe storage like rows of cubbies (meaning get more shoes in less space). He put in a slanted shelf along the baseboard. He was so proud of it, I didn't have the heart to tell him that it wouldn't meet my needs. Now, I'm kicking myself because I'm too wimpy to insist that he rip it out and redo it. Also, the floors have been finished now. I'm to the point where I have to pick my battles. Anyway, our best storage plans for our master are to de-clutter before moving in and to keep as much as possible in our huge cedar closet (for out of season clothing and shoes)....See MoreStorage Shed Plans/Kits???
Comments (14)Hi , Sorry I didn't post earlier but I've been away from the web for awhile . I've built and bought a few sheds over the last 10 years or so and offer this perspective. I currently have a 7 X 7 shed made by Rubbermaid which I would not recommend for a number of reasons. The one I had at the old house was purchased at Home Depot and although I forget the make at present , it's easy to identify as the wall components are long rectangular pieces that slide together to build the walls. That one was fantastic , strong, rigid and easy to take apart and move if needed . ( I moved mine once with no problems ) However , sometimes the products available in the stores will not do the job and so I have gone to my local Public Library and found a book on sheds . One such is " Sheds- The Do-it-yourself Guide for Backyard Builders " by David Stiles . There are several others , including one , I believe by Black and Decker Using these resources and equiped with a hammer and a saw , I've built a 6 X 8 woodshed , an 8 X 12 utility shed , and a 12 X 16 bigger utility shed , the 8 X 12 by the way was built mostly of salvaged materials given to me by a builder friend . In each case , (especially he 8x12 of course ) the cost was much less than the products offered by the building supply or speciality stores . The real beauty for me in building my own , is the ability to adapt the plan to my needs . Good Luck...See MoreNeed feedback on my drawer and cabinet storage plan
Comments (45)javiwa, thanks so much for the support. It sounds like you've had a extremely frustrating experience. :( Yes, you're right... I have come a long way. And I'm almost there! It helps to stop and take heart in that. :) The useable space you've got for your drawers is eye opening. It is shocking to me how much useable space is lost!! Wow. I will definitely be going to the cab maker's office to take some measurements from their small showroom. It will help to get a better idea of the dimensions. Thanks so much for the encouraging words javiwa. :) AnnKH: Ooo, what a good idea to order extra shelves!! I hate how I have to stack things in my current cabinets. Extra shelves that are adjustable would be SO great! I'm short too so I'll appreciate having a lower second shelf too! How many shelves did you get for each wall cabinet? I also love your above the fridge pull put! Things can easily get lost up in that deep cabinet so a pull out would be really useful. I'm adding that to my list of wants! Thanks so much for the photo!...See Moresmm5525
