Roses in high heat (So Cal Zone 10)

We have about 35 rose bushes, 22 of which were planted bare-root this past February. It was 106 degrees on Sunday and 109 yesterday, and about half the new ones, which had been settling in very nicely, got totally fried and the leaves are all brown now. Others, including some older ones in the sunniest spots, got badly fried but still have lots of green leaves. Everything has plenty of water. Our soil is clay, modified with lots of compost.

Any thoughts on what to do here, or what to expect? We have more high temps coming next week (around 100), if the weather channel is to be believed. I've been growing roses for years around here and I've never seen anything like this.
