As above. That container isn't big enough for any melon. Not just watermelon. That's exactly what melons do. They vine, and the vines don't get hurt by wind. So no, once in a larger container, you don't need supports, just room to spread.

This is now the third post of the same question about this same plant. When you posted about this same plant before several of us told you that it would drape over the side of the container and proceed run along the deck unless you built a trellis for it to climb and be tied to for support. That is what melon vines do.

So I don't understand why you keep asking the exact same question over again? Is it because you can't find your previous posts of questions? We can tell you how to do that if needed. Or just because you don't understand the answers you get? If so, ask in that same post. There is no need for making a new post when all you have to do is pull up the old one and add to it for more information. That bumps it right back up to the front.

All these duplicates posts only serve to bump other peoples posts off the page and off the forum. And they get irritating when they are asked again and again. So please explain what the problem is that make repeated posts of the same question necessary. Otherwise it is just spam.

Follow up, the leaves are starting to touch the deck which gets pretty hot. Do you think there is anything I need to put under the leaves so they don't get so hot?

Since you have all that empty space in the garden now Ryan why not take this melon out to it and transplant it there where it can roam free? If that isn't possible can you set the pot out in the yard so the melon can run on the grass?

There really is no way to put something under it that will make things any better and melons love heat. But they do need room to roam.

Ryan- You should just step back and watch the plants grow. Enjoy the process. Stop fretting over every single new development and just watch. You will soon see for yourself what is normal and what isn't.

yeah man you need to take a chill pill for a minute. plant issues are frustrating, but what can be even more frustrating is creating problems by over thinking it....often when there werent any problems to begin with.

I think I have that same plant in a 4x8 raised bed and it's already taken up half of the bed and reaching out into the aisle, didn't realize I needed to trellis them, thanks for the tips!

I think what people are saying here is that if your plants have room to spread, they do NOT need to be trellised.

Pull the leaf off if you're worried about it

It is not normal but probably not a big deal. Maybe a little too much sun or fertilizer. Just leave it alone. You need to relax. Plants are never perfect.

Ryan, don't take that leaf off unless the problem begins to spread. Spots and blemishes are quite common on leaves of all plants. There's really no way to know what caused it, and unless it spreads there's no reason to take off the entire leaf.

If the black area is 'fuzzy' (not the leaf itself, many leaves are fuzzy), then it could be a mold. However, sunlight kills most black molds and fungi, so no need to worry too much. It looks like it's just a blemish, and nothing to worry about. :-)

Would you say the leaves are curling up? Or is it normal for them to fold in a little?

Ryan I was just wondering how your melon plant is doing? My melon & squash plants have now almost completely taken over our entire garden and actually have trellised themselves up the garden fence on two sides (my husband planted wayyyy too many squash/melon plants this year!). Just wanted you to know, if you're still worried about that one melon plant, it could be way worse!
