Why can't I "soil" root any plants?
Comments (30)Larry...although TC's are true cactus, they're epiphytic, therefore don't have the typical requirement of other succulents. TC's require humidity. That's where plastic comes in. Marjie, do you have a clear, plastic bag lying around? If so, place the pot inside the plastic. If you enclose the bag airtight, you may not have to water, but check soil periodically in case soil does dry. If you fear wrapping the plant entirely, you can cut slits in the plastic for air circulation. Either way will work. As I stated above...when a TC segment broke off mom, I tossed the cutting in a pot atop soil...with success..Didn't apply effort, no digging a hole then placing segment inside. But, during summer humidity is high so nature takes care of greenery. 'Outdoors.' There's no need to place TC cuttings in plastic during humid, summer months. Indoors, especially this time of year when air is dry, a different approach is needed. Don't fear using plastic. Think about it as a temporary green house. :) Toni...See Moreany chance of rooting these?

I once saw a tipsheet on how to root peaches, maybe you can dig it up with Google. Plums are even more difficult than peaches. Scott...See MoreAny Chance I'll Get Seeds From Scabiosa
Comments (2)Hi Linda. I had only one blooming plant of 'Fama', this past summer. The one (first) flower produced only three viable seeds & then the flowering stems of plant was promptly chewed off by a rabbit. I think it's probably better to have at least a pair of this particular cultivar, in order to cross pollinate, possibly increasing seed production. But, low production of viable seeds, may be the reason for this one being actually relatively expensive, when compared to the cost of most other perennial flower seeds....See MoreAny chance an 'Emperor' at H.D. could be true?
Comments (8)There is really NO way to tell if either is a true emporer IMHO...and most think the E and e1 or the same...someone else may have a better handle on differnces IF ANY... 250$ is not cheap for a four foot tree $125.00 is a good price for 5-6 ft tree. You might want to check with Della at http://nurserygirl1.tripod.com/index.html ...before you purchase she sells only larger trees for about 70$ + shipping which to your area via dhl is about 10-12$ . She is getting in about 60 new trees tomarrow and deals with a big well established grower whose stuff is both top drawer and true to name!!..I have no idea whether E or E1 is on her list. I bought one from her last year 4-5 ft and it is doing great ...a nice fully branched larger tree. Unless the gurantee is better at the nursery or the tree is nicer I don't see how you could go wrong with HD as much as i'd like to see the local nursery supported ...that is just to big of price differnce...especially ifthe hd one is a nicer tree...now if that$250 includes delivery and planting i might think differntly ;>).
