Did Anyone Catch . . .

the movie Florence Foster Jenkins, with Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant?

We hardly ever go to the flicks as our nearest cinema is several miles away along country roads but persuaded DH to see this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt FFJ was portrayed in a sympathetic light. Having heard some of her truly awful recordings (Queen of the Night etc) I thought the film might have been used as a vehicle with which to poke fun at her.

Grant has now grown out of his floppy-haired English twit stage and played the sympathetic husband. The piano accompanist was Simon Helberg who I only know from the TV comedy show DD watches about a group of nerdy scientists . . . and he really does play the piano himself.

Just read most of the outdoor shots were made in and around Liverpool, standing-in as 1940's New York City!

Any other recommendations would be gratefully received.

It looks delightful........I don't believe it is in the US yet.

Simon stars in The Big Bang Theory.

His character in this film is similar to the BBT......hilarious.

Yvonne, delightful is the right word. It is also humorous but not in a cruel way as are so many modern plays/films.

I see it will be out State Side on August 12th.

I saw this last year. As a kid, I always like The Andy Williams Show. The Osmonds brothers were amazing singers, something I didn't realize when I was young. I can see why Andy Williams, also a member of a talented singing brothers act, mentored the Osmonds. He must have felt enormous kinship with them. It was great to see the Williams brothers reunite for the show too. In a way, I kind of miss television programming like that. There's nothing today that compares.

mhillgal---if you check the sample policy on that website...one is supposed to return the sample to the manufacturer: Can I keep samples? Samples are on loan and you may keep them until you are finished with them. However, when you are finished with them it is important to return them to the proper manufacturer. Why are samples priced? The $7 Sample Fee is a processing fee and is non refundable unless you do not receive your sample. All samples are ordered online.

snookums, Builders get blamed for taking too long to build pools! Now he's being blamed for building it too fast! This feat is not that hard to believe. There doesn't have to be anything wrong with the pool. Concrete never quits curing! Remember, the size is like a big swim spa. Probably about 13'X20' and 3'to5' in depth. Good coordination and enough labor makes it reality. This is easier to believe than the building of Hoover Dam in 4 years considering the equipment available at the time. That concrete is still curing. How long should it take to replace the bridge that recently fell across the Mississippi? If the people in charge wanted to get this done in 6 months they could find companies that would accept the challenge. I guess my point is that people (like me) that work in the industry don't really see a problem with this. It's not technically hard to understand. Usually these projects are done for charity or as some type of fund raiser. My hat is off to these guys! Congrats!

I would love to see this movie having been interested in her some years ago.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure it won't come to our only movie theater, a Cobb 16, as we seldom get good movies, only kid fare and fantasy stuff.

I don't go to cinema theatres although we have some good ones locally, even a Gold Pass place, where you recline and get served with food and drink (how decadent!) because I prefer to watch at home where I can get up and stretch!

I have to wait for the DVDs but they are quite quickly available these days.

I haven't missed an episode of BBT. It is very popular in Australia and is on the Free to Air channels.

I'm so glad to hear it was a good movie! I will definitely see this, though it will probably be on Netflix. We rarely go out to the movies, and this is a film I'm sure my husband would avoid. Maybe a girls' night out, though ...

I am also a big fan of The Big Bang Theory, it's my favorite show.

I recently saw previews for this film (or perhaps I mean trailers, which I find to be a strange term) at our local arts theater. It's definitely on my list.
