Eupatorium havanense - White Mistflower
Comments (9)I'll be driving through Houston next week, and there is a nursery there that specializes in Texas native and naturalized plants. Butterfly plants is one of their specialties. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to drop in and see if they have any E. havanense. But I'm a newbie to gardening and have never harvested seeds, so someone will have to walk me through the process. I do have a blue mistflower but haven't seen too many butterflies attracted to it. The only reason I know about the white version is because I saw it at Home Depot Garden Club's Q&A. And wouldn't you know it, HD doesn't carry it. But anyway that made me google the plant, and I saw where someone here had picked it as his/her plant of the year, I think back in '07. That's how I discovered this site. BTW, Sherry, I live north of Ocean Springs, north of the interstate, and we finally got some good rain yesterday, a real gully washer. Did you get any of that? And it was a little cooler this morning. I usually limit my time outside to about 30 minutes' worth of weeding and whatever before 8 a.m., but this morning I was able to stay outside and plant about a dozen pentas. Question: This is my first year to do any gardening (yes, I'm a late bloomer), so I tho't I'd try a BF garden. A friend told me to be sure to have host plants nearby (milkweed for monarchs), so I was wondering how close to the nectar plants should a host plant be? Comments (0)I am sorry to say that I only have ironweed for trade this time...we are in the middle of one serious drought and I decided to leave what little there was to the animals that will need the seeds most for survival this winter. A few of the mast trees did produce amazingly healthy nuts, so I would be happy to send white oak, hickory (shagbark or pignut) if you would like. I may have paw paw but I don't know for certain until more leaves are off the trees. If none of these are of interest to you I would be willing to work out cash terms as well. If you can help me obtain blue mistflower it would be most appreciated. DG...See MoreGranite questions labrador blue, volga blue
Comments (11)I completely understand. I think I could've written your post. I may have not too long ago. I also had 8 years of dreams of having Blue Pearl granite with my natural cherry cabinets and it was just about a done deal...until this past summer when we got serious about our remodel and I first crossed paths with Labradorite Blue Australe and Galactic Blue (sister of Blue volga only harder to get) granite. .They were amazing and I was hooked on them. They were like granite crack. Then I learned that the price of the Blue Australe in the granite world was like the price of a Masarati in the car world. Not just any Masarati, but a 2013 one of a kind convertible with hand sewn leather seats...well the Galactic Blue was a bargain compared to that. Well, almost but it was a dark Labradorite blackish high shine granite too. Also, then it seemed to me the granite yard was practically giving the Blue Pearl. LOL, after countless trips to the granite yard...over an 1 hour + in each direction, reality hit me. I don't live in the Labradorite Blue Australe kitchen cabinet counter world> I live in a "modest" cape cod home in my life and while I loved it, I walked away from it just like I walked away from the blue Maserati convertible I saw a couple of years ago while walking down the Champs-lyses in Paris a couple of years ago when we went for our anniversary. Not necessarily happy, but glad to have had it cross my path! Really, I live the world of messy countertops and kids that don't have the ability to appreciate the piece of art I was planning on draping in my kitchen. I ended up having dark green Costa esmeralda put in the kitchen and even though my kitchen is not done yet, I can bear the maintenance...and the owner of the granite yard made me super happy and had an unbelievable faultless remnant of super rareLabradorite Blue Australe that he was willing to part with so that I could put it in the half bath downstairs adajacent to the living area. I am beyond happy. The fabricator came over two nights ago to check on the granite and dropped off my sink cut out from the half bath that they finished off and gifted to me. I've put it on a metal round platform that I'd been using as nightstand for years. Cathy725, the level is $$$$$$$ and both are high maintenance granites. By that I mean, lots of work to make them shine all the time. But when they shine, they are really beautiful. My granite yard just got some slabs of BIG FlowerLabradorite Blue Australe in...it's $165 a square yard plus fabricator costs..I posted pictures in my other posts on here... This was my journey... Comments (6)Thanks Mara, the blue mistflower is Conoclinium coelestinum. I'll have to rethink where I can put the mistflower since it takes up real estate. I got two Gregg's mistflower plants last year and they took over a large section of my flower bed. Would the blue mistflower do well in shade? I have a spot under some large hackberries that get morning and early afternoon sun and then shade the rest of the day, would that be an ok spot for the bee bush? I'll need to get some more decomposed granite as well a some more pine bark....See MoreRelated Professionals
