Help me design a front door and entry for this house, please
Comments (8)Ooooh! I love the one AndiK posted. My idea is similar...couldn't find a photo, so I worked it up in my design software. It's just the interior elevation looking toward the door of the ante room so you'll have to imagine being able to see through the glass to your front door. If I find a photo, I'll post it later. I think I recall there being a nice door set up for the ante room in the movie Uncle Buck starring John Candy & McCaulay Culkin. I looked for a photo online of it with no luck, but you could probably rent the movie and check it out first hand. I thought the Home Alone movie house had one, but while they had the ante toom, alas there was no door on it--just a cased doorway. Hope this helps! Keep us posted on what you decide!...See MoreMarble for the front entrance foyer floor?
Comments (1)I don't have specific experience, but the fact is that marble is a softer material than granite would be. It is possible that her marble floor wasn't sealed correctly. Even if marble is softer, it should stay clean if it is sealed correctly. I remember in elementary school they had marble bathrooms and they looked fine and had been there eons. I would choose something else if the front entrance is your main entrance. If it is used infrequently, go for it....See MoreVery small entryway/floor - need recs for flooring/crisp design
Comments (15)With black and white tiles you don't have to use black or white grout, you can choose a dark gray that will have less issues with dirt and staining. Also, depending on the style of your home, you could consider some natural stone. I don't have a picture, but I used Ostrich Gray Slate/Quartzite in my entry and I love it. It's a natural stone with a lot of pattern in gray/charcoal/black and it's honed smooth. The dark gray grout never looks dirty. (I have the same tile and grout in my mud room/laundry room too.)...See MoreEntry Foyer Flooring Choice?
Comments (8)The front porch landing is concrete and is at the same level as the front foyer. Is that how/ why the previous flooring got water damaged? Your house, your call. I still like the slate idea. Is there a side lite on the other side of the door? Because the sidelights help a whole bunch in keeping the foyer light. I have a slate entry as well as sidelites. They were half lights & had to be replaced. Opted for full lites almost identical to the one in your picture and it made a huge difference....See MoreIdaClaire
