help me design my mud room/laundry room
Comments (4)I think I would rob some square footage from the hall closet and turn it into a walk in shower in the mud room I would add hooks and drying racks for all the wet stuff, boots, rain gear, umbrellas, waders, snow suits etc... You can also pop a kid or a dog in there pretty easy for a quick fix if needed. I put a narrow rack on the wall for dry shoes and boots. 4 lockers on outside door wall, be sure to have drawers for hats, gloves, scarves, glasses, goggles, ear protection etc... also have room in upper cubbies for helmets and ball caps etc.. I put in your stacked wash/dry and the 4'4" double drain board sink next to it. I would probably add a fold up/down shelf next to the wash dry for folding (on the outside of the shower wall). I only had the measurements you gave and no idea which wall is which or how wide the doors and closet outside etc were so this is just a rough draft......See MoreHelp with floorplan for Laundry Room - Office - Guest Half-bathroom
Comments (27)Do you have an elevation drawing of that stairwell in the living area? Seems the space under the stair landings could be better incorporated in your effort to locate the powder room, or at least the hot water, accessing from the closet by the entry and moving the sloset to the living room side. On another subject, am I mis-reading or are there bi-fold doors by the tub in the main bath? Looks like there are windows in the WIC. I would rather have windows in the bath and walk through the closet to get there than have to walk through the bath to retrieve clothing; not convenient if there is someone using the bath. That pantry at the foot of the stairs looks like a good spot for a stacking WD. I'd want it configured to vent out an exterior wall, using pullout pantries in the kitchen so that space could be the laundry. But first I'd move that big bath's footprint to the deck end of the space so the closet could be in the master....See MoreAm I missing anything in my laundry room/mud room layout?
Comments (18)Thank you, Anna, Kim, and Tanya. Your advice is very helpful. RNmom, I think because straightening the wall in that bedroom would make it less than 11" wide? I'm not sure. It does look a little weird. And I agree on taking out the double sinks in the kids' bath. We had them in the last house and they still were only in there one at a time. :-) We are in the midwest also (just moved back after 12 years in the South), and I was thinking I would move the coat closet up and put it across from the lockers. We need a coat closet for the big winter stuff, and the one in the foyer we'd never use since it's so far away. I really don't need lots of cabinets in the laundry/mudroom. I think the closet would be more useful....See MoreHELP design my 7 x 7 or 8 feet Laundry room!
Comments (1)I of course would first recommend that you hire a designer. I would have a lot more questions for you that would help to create a room that stands apart from casual free advice here on the board. I give my professional advice at times on this board, but it's few and far between when you are considering a blank slate. Some modular cabinet companies will offer in-house layout design, because they benefit from selling you the cabinets direct. (I would let your contractor procure them so that they ensure the product, delivery and everything in between) Would be helpful to know the style of the home, the layout of adjacent rooms, the polar arrangements of the walls (to understand window placement for light) Would also be helpful to see existing designed spaces, furnishings etc. Lastly, if I were your hired designer, I would have interview questions, looking to better understand your movement through the home and getting into detail on how you would use this room. As a professional we know of such thigs as integrated ironing boards and specialty drawers and cubbies that can benefit you for years to come....See Morelascatx
