I have a set of switches in my bathroom. I chose to have only one with backlighting so that I could see exactly which one to turn on if I enter the room after dark. The others control other lights in the bathroom, but not ones I would need for a middle of the night visit.

You all have made me very happy because I really wanted to try the Pilar for my weird install, but I got to looking at the pics on line and wondered if it swiveled. And it does!!!!! So here's my plan: last week I lucked into buying a great used Elkay Lustertone sink at my local Habitat Store. It wasn't what I set out to buy, but one of those times where the unexpected filled the bill better than what I thought I wanted. I wasn't planning on a stainless steel prep, but this old sink was cheap ($10) and my husband said just buy it and we'll use it to try out the placement and utility to see if we like having a prep sink. So I got it and spent half a day scrubbing/polishing and, ulitmately, buffing it. What I wasn't expecting is that Lustertone is such lovely material that it cleans up so well. I got the rust, hard water scum, scratches, and vile grungy-faucet crud off completely. Tonight, it's sitting in my dining room, just glowing. The thing is, it's a top mount and I wanted an undermount, and it has three faucet holes. And it's rectangular 13.5 X 16.5. What to do...? So (since it's just a test sink anyway, I sez to myself), why not turn 90 degress so it's wider side-to-side rather than deeper front-to-back, because I think it was Buehl who mentioned that wider felt better to use. Then I decided to undermount it anyway with a positive reveal that follows along that little ridge that surrounds all drop sinks. This leaves the three holes located on a flat deck area about 3/16ths inch lower than the little ridge which I think will make things easier since I am plopping this baby in a wood countertop (IKEA BB) and the farther away the wood is from the water, the better. But now I have three visible holes running along the side of the sink deck, not at the back, as the sink was planned. However, this is going to be installed in a relatively narrow (28") island work surface that may sometimes have people using it from both sides, so not having a row of faucets sort of walling off the back of the sink from the other side would be good. If I orient it so the faucets are on the right side, I could arrange the three holes with (from farther back to closer) faucet, control lever and soap dispenser. That way users on the opposite side would have some use of the sink (may be not the soap dispenser). It won't be quite as convenient from the opposite as it will be from the principal side, though still OK, I think. But for this to work well, it was critical that the faucet swivel so it could be pushed a bit out of the way when need from either side. And you all tell me it does! Yeah! And once it's on, operators from both sides can turn it on with a touch. Perfect. Many thanks to all who answered my question so quickly and thoroughly. Can't beat the Kitchen Forum! L

Thank you.. Not too nosy, since I mention it plenty of times, here and there.. I was born in Kiev, Ukraine, the former Soviet Union.. as much as I felt I've moved on-we left when I was 18..this Maidan revolution in 2014 and everything that's followed was hard on me..you see, my childhood home overlooked Maidan( that was of course called differently, and I must say looked much much nicer then..it's like these urban planners compete how to make it uglier, really)..anyway when you see the place you were born, saw from your window, walked every day.. place that was your home..burning..you suddenly understand that you didn't move too far.. and no, you can't predict, until something like this happens. I really thought it's part of me, of my past, integral part, but not a home anymore. Israel is my home. we moved to Israel.. I spent there many years..then my ex got transferred here..I was hysterical and didn't want to go yet I went..very young kids, family..you know.. then they transferred us back I was so happy still wasn't a walk in the rose garden..as much as my previous employers loved me-they didn't hold space for me..:) so looking for new job and all that..you do start again, even if you left for some time and went back you still adjust. even when everything around you spells home. And Israel has this thing about it..you change, it changes, yet it's the only place on Earth that gives meaning to me being there, besides just being with the people I love anywhere else I won't say it's a Garden of Eden, yes? it can be downright scary..the bombings and all-I wasn't there(actually came to take care of my Mom, also in 2014- but they didn't get to Haifa then..was too far for their missiles..)..but I lived in Jerusalem through two intifadas..you understand that every day is a dying day(c)..yet you know..you continue..because -where else? and you have to stay human. there are two sorts of death, right? This is a very strange, magical place. People go crazy there. We even have "The Jerusalem Syndrome"..:) that some tourists get..need to be send to a hospital for some time, take meds you know..they start thinking they are Messiahs.. It's too old and seen it all. Jerusalem I mean. It doesn't care about you. And the sky is amazingly high there. But you can't stop caring about it. When I'm in Israel and it so happens I didn't go to Jerusalem-I feel I didn't fully go.. so.. sorry about the big lyrical off top..when my ex's bosses decided to send us here again I was very sad but less panicky..I thought "ok they're going to send us back again, as they did the first time" and then everything unfolded differently so..as they say in Russian fairy tales "for longer for shorter"..for now I'm here, and listen, I love it too. It's been many years already..I lived on two coasts..I think 7 years(altogether) on the East, and probably 7 on the West? goodness..time really flies I love West Coast much more first, it reminds me of Israel. The sky is high here too..:) and other things second, I'm plainly happier. on some important accounts but I will always want to go back If somebody translated Joseph Brodsky's poem(no.. he never been to Israel and never wanted to, and didn't feel any connection as per his interviews.. but since he was a genius poet he just knew certain things I guess...that's a poem about a desert)..in short if I find a good translation-I'll post it..the link I mean ok..that was really long..:)

Sorry, Patricia, the crank pasta machines stay. The penninsula stays, also. There is not enough room for an island or wall ovens. The sink is at the only outside wall and it will say at the window with a view of a creek. An unfinished attic is above the stove. We are both in the kitchen prepping, cooking, and cleaning up at the same time - not one prepping then one cooking. We need more space at the stove and primary sink. This design gives us each a contained workspace without crossing each other's path constantly. . . and takes us out of the walkway. Walking through the living room provides access to the rest of the house for anyone who wants to avoid the kitchen. We view the refrigerator as the appliance that we spend the least amount of time in front of. It's close enough to the stove and the penninsula, and acts as a landing spot for both prep and cleanup. Changing the doorway also brings the kitchen closer to the deck. The only real inconvenience I see is at the doorway when the dishwasher is open. Cabinet style was a secondary consideration. Our experience with a number of purely kitchen designers is that they design great features but won't be using the kitchen with another cook once their work is done. We want and need to be able to function in our kitchen. My question involved how well inset cabinets at the penninsula would blend with full overlay slab cabinet doors. So, here are photos of the current space and preliminary measurements for the redesign. There doorway at the left will be 30" and the fridge will be about 6" to the right.
