American Painted Lady Caterpillars!

I have been gradually expanding the native plants in my garden, so planted Pussy Toes to see if I could attract more butterflies. I managed to get a rather measly little patch going, but didn't expect any action, since I've never seen one of those butterflies in my garden. But, I was checking the plant for ripe seeds, and I found 6 cats! 5 look almost ready to pupate, and one is still pretty small. I'm wondering if I should leave them alone (put them back) or if they can be raised safely in captivity. Any thoughts? Here is a quick photo:
