I use doilies , if you love them then it suits your house. Make your home fit you .

Yes, I do too. But none of the décor photos ever show any. I wonder why.

Because people have lost touch with the beautiful things our grandmothers used. The future is all about dust proof and sterile. They like pictures of the past sealed in glass.

I use doilies too, the hand made ones. I think and can see that they enhance the ornament set upon it.

My Gran taught me crochet when I was maybe four. I was young enough I don't remember learning it. I prefer to do thread crochet. Funny this came up, I just finished making a purple doily for my night table.

As I can´t crochet I assume that thread crochet means using a thin or fine thread. Most of my doilies are from South Africa, a lady my mom worked for made them , fine thread. The rest, few, are from my paternal great grandmother, Spain, and the thread used is thicker. I prefer the finer.

Mostly what I appreciate and admire from any well handmade object is precisely that, the creativity and effort to produce something beautiful, and I believe that it honours the person who made it when displayed or used properly in the home or where appropriate.

I´ve just looked up Irish lace, wow , beautiful ! You must be so proud to be able to make all that, definitely a rewarding skill. Perhaps you would´t mind showing some of your creations, I´d love to see.

i had a lovely elderly neighbor taught me how to crochet. tools everything, we were just starting to work on doilies when the hands gave totally.

I sold most of my lace years ago. I have a few things packed away. I'll see what I can do. If you can read a crochet pattern you can learn to do it. It just takes time and a great deal of patience.

gtb, i deeply appreciate your efforts, but what i meant was my arthritis got so bad that i could not do more than 10 minutes without pain.
