Anyone ever grown a pomegranate from seed and seen it fruit...?

I have seen some articles in the UK saying a pomegranate needs high heat, and to be at least 15 years old, before it fruits, so it's best grown in a hot-house.... other articles state that a hardy variety ('Provence') will grow out in the open, is resistant to frost but needs a sheltered sunny spot... Has anyone in the more temperate, cooler climates (similar to the UK) had any success with a 'Pommy Gannet' (as my colleague calls it!)...?
