hanging plants for hanging baskets
Comments (5)There are many shade or partial shade loving plants to use in a gazebo or pergola. The above are good suggestions but I'll give you a few more. Think a little about the falling spent blooms. A plant shedding profusely can even be slippery underfoot. Coleus makes a bright, full basket for shade with no blooms for instance. Browallia does well too. Both can be seed started. Ivies or many foliage plants you'd use indoors if you want to take slips from them. Most folks can start them even in water. Fuschias or bacopa do well in partial shade. Illumination begonias are drop dead gorgeous. You can seed start them, but it's not for the faint of heart. Many begonias (like non-stop or reiger) can be started from purchased tubers rather inexpensively....See MoreHow do i keep birds from nesting in my hanging baskets? ughhhh
Comments (18)I have the same problem in Florida with my orchids. They hang in various baskets under the trees. Not only do the birds try to nest in the baskets, they love the sphagnum moss which is part of the potting mix. They also love the coir baskets, pulling chunks off the baskets which leaves big holes where all the potting mix falls out. One thing I did last year which seemed to work was to add small lava rock to the top of the potting mix. They do not like it and have left the plants alone. I removed it after nesting season and saved it for this year. I found a bunch of house wrens and finches landing in the baskets this morning and I knew it was time to get the rock out. You could probably use small gravel. Would work the same. Good luck and let us know how it goes... Jane...See MoreRepotting hanging baskets

Comments (4)Ken wrote ”i usually used other primary colored Ps staying with the same them in pots ..” I must be dense. would you word this in a diffent way for me? I will look up ”primary colors” and do you mean only one color per pot? I don’t mean to be obtuse. And, of course, thanks very much, Ken. PS Where is there a good place to ask you or others tree questions. For example, I have several 5’ to 8’ saplings I want to relocate. They are all leafed out now ;-( Paper birches (some are under 4’) Red oak red maple ash...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
