cd disk did not eject

I got a HP stand alone computer with a side opening for CDs. I put one in and nothing happened and so I tried to eject it and try again and it was gone. It is lost in the machine. The machines works well, and I have tried a second disc with success, but the lost one is still in the machine. How do I get it out?

At least for the type of CD players than have a tray, there should be a small hole somewhere on the face near the tray. Straighten a paper clip (you may need to use a heavy duty clip) and slip it in the hole until resistance is felt. Continue to push with mild force and it should eject the CD.

My laptop, the spindle on the dvd player became unattached from its drive shaft and I think it was when trying to burn a dvd it lifts it up and made a heck of a racket & somehow the DVD slit back into the laptop,, seemingly disappeared, but stuck inside there only about halfway gone. Anyhow to remove it I had remove the dvd player which is a one screw deal on its bottom side.

Hi I glued two together then drilled holes and did some string art on them like they do on cards, then used them as sun catchers. Also crocheted around them and made doilies, just used the outer three or four inches of a doily pattern and used the hole as the six chain starting. If anyone wants pic email me. davesmoo

Assuming 2000/XP now...In Control panel, mail, data files - are you showing a location and a file structure? (Outlook will save to .pst format). That's the file(s) you need to get onto separate media asap. Personally, compressing a disk is something I avoid unless absolutely necessary. If you are able to back up your data to separate media, then the next step I would take is turning off system restore if it is currently enabled. ATF Cleaner is useful for drive cleanup in conjunction with other tools, because it will delete other user temp files if present. atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=25

Sometimes drives are finicky about the formats used to create the files it tries to read, and they get worse as they age. (sort-of like people :-) ) If this is a CD-R (not +R), see if another CD-R disk can be read by his computer. It's not alweays enough to say it can read other discs if we don't know how the others were formatted.

I hope you've had success getting an answer somewhere. There are a lot of photograpy sites with forums. We have an old Sony Mavica- quite a few years old- that uses floppies. I tried to take a picture the other day with it but it didn't come out very well. It may have been a bad floppy or maybe I've become accustomed to better quality pictures from our later cameras. You'll have to open that machine/optical drive. Is it still under warranty?

Problem solved. I really lucked out. I opened the tray, put the monitor on its side and the cd rolled out. Sometimes luck is all you need. Thanks for all your suggestions>
