Veggie Garden Home Business
Comments (20)I just recently purchased a home with lots of backyard space Simply put, I want to start my own vegetable garden business from my backyard, but I am a novice i would seriously hold off on trying to start a business out of gardening right now. continue your current job and aquire the skilles you currently lack over a couple years before you attempt to live off what you can grow. plus, it takes a couple months before you can sell ANYTHING, and those are also the months when you have the biggest expenditures for equipment and supplies, so with a new house i would try to get all that out of the way and get htings settled before i quit my day job. it is something about getting a lot of land makes us all see this. when we bought our house i swore i was going to grow a huge garden and sell veggies for extra money. that was almost 4 years ago and i have yet to sell anything. i usually keep most of what i grow and give the rest away as i don't have enough extra to make it worth selling!...See MoreLizards everywhere in the veggie garden
Comments (25)we call it a garden! sometimes veg patch (for veggies obviously) and (lawn) for grass, but Gardens (Yards) are small in the UK so we don't have a whole lot of names, no need! I had a really big garden (yard) by uk standards, but not even appropriate to put in acreage! I lived in the countryside and flora as far as I can tell lives in town, so she will have most likely have a smaller plot than I did, and after patio, small lawn area for kids to run on and jungle climber, no garden (UK sence)left for veg (get this, we got the jungle climber for free as everyone who viewed it, said it was too big for their garden and so the person selling it put it up as free, to get rid of it) I know in cities this space problem is the same (USA), and appartments, but even country people have small gardens, land prices are so high (UK), that if you have a big garden a lot of people sell it, for house building. for example my gargage foot print and bonus room here is bigger than our house my first house in the UK, and the last we had before moving, we where the envy of a lot of friends due to it's size (approx 1500 Sq foot) so imagine the garden size (yard) hope this helps, and to think I am from a nation of gardener's, hats off to the Brit chaps and chapesses....See MoreWhat was your biggest gardening mistake...
Comments (28)Virginia, I have to agree with you. My new resolutions are: 1) Never visit a nursery right after watching a garden show, reading a gardening magazine or going on a garden tour. ;O) 2) Never buy a plant unless I know exactly where I'm going to plant it. ... And where it's most likely to live. 3) Try harder to come up with an overall plan to integrate what I have with what I want. 4) Try for more perennials and fewer annuals. (I call this last resolution 'buying vs renting'.) 5) Spend more time developing edible landscaping. Now let's see if I can *keep* these resolutions......See MoreHail damage to veggie garden
Comments (12)Wow, we got the hail and the 70 mph winds last night in Corinth. It took out 100 feet of fence, dumped large tree limbs in our pool, and took down a mature bradford pear across our driveway. Spend the day cleaning debris (couldn't see the bottom of the pool and it was green) and putting up temporary fencing. I did manage to rescue a rose bush that got squished by my neighbors fence, but just realized when I saw this post that I hadn't checking very many of my plants yet. Have to go check my veggies..hoping for the best. I was really grateful for great neighbors today. I've never lived in a neighborhood where everyone looked out for everyone. If it hadn't been for those great folks I would not have gotten my temporary fence up....See Morerhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7
