It's sickening. I read of an organization who rescued some, but of course not all.

Why is it more sickening that eating a lamb, horse, or cow? I'm not sure.

i think b/c we look at dogs as domesticated and they are a part of our families., where as others are farm animals... i so agree, absolutely sickening. but hopefully duo duo project is making headway and this will end. i read it started in 2009-10, so hopefully b/c its not a long standing "tradition" it will end this year!!

And somebody thinks CHINA is gonna shake in their boots of signatures from US?? Though wouldn't be putting dog or cat on my supermarket shopping list... it's "meat" to some people. People in Peru eat Guinea Pigs. May sound heartless, but rounding up STRAY, UNWANTED animals that will FEED people is better than rounding them up and just killing them cuz nobody wants them. Now "stealing" people's pets is another story.

I've been researching this. It seems they torture the dogs first, makes the meat tastier. People have taken hidden cameras in and filmed this, to make the cause known. Google this if you want to see it. That's a BIG difference from slaughtering a cow or a chicken. A local dog rescue just got in 150 of these meat market dogs and they need foster care. These dogs are kept in crates, some are bred for slaughter. They aren't house trained or pets. Most, have never known kindness. Yes, some are taken out of kill shelters, some are stolen. It's a mess!

My original reply to post was just one face value. The fact that MANY people in other parts of the world eat "meat" that typical American might find repugnant. TORTURE is not acceptable. Somebody has to KILL a living animal in order for it to be cooked and eaten. That can be done quickly and "humanely". But AGAIN... you could get 2 BILLION signatures and nobody in China is gonna lose sleep over it!

I also saw this on RHBV. Lisa Vanderpump is an animal advocate, and I really admire her for this. Yeah, I don't think China gives a crap what we think and no petition is going to change this barbaric tradition. I agree with Petra, Asian culture as it relates to animals is horrific.

there are reports that the locals are up in arms over this. any pressure that anyone can do is a step in the right direction. there is a right & wrong way to slaughter animals and this is absolutely horrific!!! i know there are hundreds, if not more (shudder),, of horrible instances of animal abuse, but if we can stop one, then there is hope for all. it really is so sad what humans do to animals.
