can anyone recommend best carpeting for heavy traffic livingroom

Best heavy traffic carpet is commercial grade, like seen in malls/offices/etc.

It is not very comfortable for a living room where folks relax, however as that type carpet is usually installed on concrete. Outdoor carpet is next, but worse.

There is no single brand/type of carpet best for a general question like yours. The choices are tempered by use and the types of traffic. Boots and work footwear? Stocking feet? Amount of dirt tracked in? Number and types of pets? Frequency of cleaning,, both vacuuming and shampooing?

We are asking this question as well -- I hate picking out carpet! 10 years ago we selected a commercial grade low loop carpet to withstand two boys and two dogs. The carpet did not perform well in any way, shape, or form. Now that the kiddos are 75% launched and the dog is 15.5 years old, we are looking at replacing the tragic flooring.

So far, we are leaning towards a dense Nylon textured carpet with multiple colors and a short pile. We are staying away from wool for several reasons; Nylon seems to be the next best fiber for high traffic areas. Hoping someone with more knowledge/experience chimes in!

You know those 3M hooks that remove without leaving any damage to the wall? They have them like that only not hooks, but with velcro tabs. They are marketed as picture frame attachers. But I think you could use them without worrying that they would leave a residue on the carpet. You'd put some of them on the carpet and some of them on the runners, and then they snap together. You can separate the velcro tabs when you want to wash the runners. I don't think you'd have to remove them, but I'm not sure how the ones on the runners would do in the washing machine. You could always remove the velcro tabs by pulling the glue strip down and put fresh glue strips on the velcro strips on runners after washing. They are pretty cheap. They sell replacement glue strips separately so you could reuse the velcro parts.

Leave the bed where it's located, and to gain a bit more room, you could change out the side rails and footboard for a simple metal frame. Shop around & you might find one for less than $50. Then if decorating is not your forte, purchase a prematched set of items like this Waverly set available from a variety of retailers. This queen set is from Kohls and the reversible quilt, pillow shams, bed skirt is on sale for $134. Has a matching valance. Depending on the size of your window you might need a few to install on a single rod. Nightstands are from Target, but I'm sure there are lots of this type available from Wayfair or Overstock too. I selected this style because it has drawers for your guests. Select one that is close to the height of your mattress. The lamps are from Target online also. Add some artwork and the room is done until more funds are available.

At this stage in your family & needing toy storage, have you considered the cube type cabinet pieces from IKEA with pullout drawer baskets? I found those to be a lifesaver when my kids were small & a great way to keep toys organized. I even labeled the drawers so that as they learned to read, they also learned which toys went to which drawers. It made it easier when it came to picking up (& finding) toys. Above the cube shelving, I could see a fun collage on the wall with favorite family photos, & artwork mixed in a way you like. The key on such a large wall is not using tiny photos & artwork but going a bit larger. Make sure to secure cube shelving to the wall (especially if you have climbers!). Then, you could put a couple live plants in the space. Maybe 1 or 2 on top of the shelving and then a large taller one to one side. Or, faux plants if live plants aren't your thing. I love live plants in a home though. :-) The natural light coming in is fantastic!

Picture shown is before painting. I don't have a pic of the master bedroom right now but it's black and dark brown bed with tray ceiling. I was considering Passive for the room but I'm not sure it will contrast enough with Snowbound.

Our 3 year old nylon Stainmaster carpet has not held up well. I find that it holds on to stains for dear life. Just had it professionally cleaned and the stains are still there. Stains come out of my polyester PET carpet in my living room much easier. That is what I am getting next time.
