Comments (3)Sun and Fertilizer arent that important. I pass plenty of trees while driving around the state of FL. Old orchards are now covered with pine trees that are 20 ft high. Yet the Orange Trees are in mostly shade and are still producing fruit. Kinda funny to see fruit trees loaded with oranges in the middle of the shaded forest....See MoreAnyone growing a Giant Key Lime?
Comments (3)Sorry, its in Florida :( I know about your CA restrictions. Stinks. We talked a while back, I wanted to send you a Variegated Tiger Navel, but you said it was illegal to do so. I guess noone around here has a Giant Key Lime. Noone has posted. I got a greenhouse last year, which hs been great, but also dangerous at the same time. It has given me the excuse to buy a lot more citrus. I had serious surgery last month, and decided I needed to reward myself with Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR new citrus from Four Winds! Lol! I did have a 20% coupon, so that was my excuse to get 4 instead of the orginal 2 planned! So not like I need anymore now, but I figure I might as well get them and enjoy while I'm alive! (I blame it on my new outlook on life after my health ordeal!) That's a good excuse, right? Lol! Christy...See Moretell me about key lime vs cold weather
Comments (6)I have one that came from Lowes, probably 4 years ago. I had never protected it in the winter until last year,(2 nights of 24*). This past freeze I moved it close to the house in a sheltered area and it still looks the same as it did three weeks ago, loaded with fruit and still blooming. One of my few bright spots. It was 21* four nights in a row here. So if I were you, I wouldn't give up on it. My experience with other frozen citrus is that it may take 2 months or more to start putting out new growth. Be careful not to overwater. john...See MorePotted up my Santa Teresa and thornless key lime...pics below
Comments (27)Thanks dev but I think the pic is deceiving, the pot is no wider than my regular 5 gallons, it is just a 2.5 gallon. I know the whole citrus taproot thing isn't true but I would imagine that as the trees get big the roots will almost fill the pot. No? The tall pots still make sense for me for space conservation in my grow room. I noticed the same thing Laura as repotted but I assumed that was because the old mix was boggy so the roots didn't want to go down. I thought with the 511 they may be more inclined to spread out a bit....See Morehobbyartisan (Saskatoon, SK Canada, 2b)
