Hey stup - all I said was your helpfullness was confusing, and holly seemed to agree with me. Like I said , it's quite clear that you can save $$$ by wanting less. I.E. stick with the lower amp oven, that's obvious to everyone and didn't need pointing out. Your pointing it out is how you got misrepresented. for the record - and no irony included from last post : " toy - what guage wire is in your wall now, and how far is it to the electrical panel ?" If it's 8 gauge and less than 100 feet then you might consider just upping the breaker to 40 amps. If you have 10 gauge or the run is more than 100 feet, and you want a 40 amp oven - then you'll need a sparky to pull a new wire for you." And just to make it easier for some to follow: If your 40 amp oven restocking fee is less than $1050 , and a new 30 amp oven will cost the same or less than the orig. purchase price of the 40 amp oven , THEN returning the 40 amp oven will be CHEAPER than having all the work done. Yes, you will see negatives. You will read that the burners click and the oven fan exhausts from the top and the oven dial is very imprecise. There's not really any temperature below 275 or 300. But Bertazzoni has made stoves in Italy since 1882 and are still selling them. There are negatives posted about every stove. And you don't see the same negatives posted about the "consumer ranges" people buy because there are low expectations for those. It's a stove not an upgrade or a kitchen style choice. The issue with the Berta is that it looks like a high end range. But it's basically a mechanical gas oven with convection. In our apartment the Berta replaced an mid-80s Magic Chef with gas oven and no convection. They were about the same except the Berta had more top power and better burner grates, smaller oven but with lights, no self clean, convection and looked way more expensive. And it has a nice storage area on the bottom. Plus I could clean under it. And it was gorgeous vs hideous. NXR makes a pro style range at a popular price point. I think it's really ugly and don't like the burner arrangement -- but some love it. Verona remains a mystery although it has been a lurker brand for more than 10 years it has never been well distributed or caught on. Perhaps appliance folks like weissman, xedos or deegeaux can explain. Then there are the other Italians -- Ilve, Fratelli Onofri etc. Before I bought the Berta I combed through old threads and emailed owners who had been using them for some time. Everyone liked theirs and were very realistic about pros/cons. The thing with Consumer Reports is that they like Kenmore. If you're going for Kenmore, it's reassuring. yes have electric 3 yrs old & propane fueled 7 yrs old in different homes. no issues w doors (except to adapt to left closing). both perform well. electric more bells whistles being newer.. digital and pizza stone. however on advice on tech (we had 1 svc call for faulty thermostat ez repair but they pulled entire panel and replaced), pizza stone carefully removed, stored. this way oven heats and cools faster. note that neither throws excessive heat into space. trade off is a fan running to aid slow deliberate cool down. this might annoy in an open space eat in kitchen. our fan friendly oven is installed in walk in pantry utility room that houses freezer and extra refrig (main kitchen has 30" Leibherr)

"Why?? Who cares if anyone responds to an older thread?" Because ultimately it degrades the quality of discourse. In cases where they are NOT actually make a substantive contribution, which is true of most bumpers of very old threads. In this case, the post that triggered it though, was apparently deleted or flagged as spam. If a spammer or quasi-spammer gets to bump an old thread, it creates a legitimacy to what they are doing. If someone is forced to create a whole new thread "Monrovia makes the best wholesale plants, rah rah rah", we would just be flagging that whole thread as spam, getting it removed, and not having it clog the gardenweb universe with more unnecessary threads or posts. I agree they have other priorities, but there is no harm in them being aware of the issue!
