Stacking Washer & Dryer

Planning to stack my Samsung washer and dryer in our new home but wondered if I should go with the recommended Samsung stacking kit or perhaps the one with the pull out shelf? Also, has anyone ever built a raised platform (to mimic a pedestal) and then stacked the washer and dryer? I don't think I can leave my washing machine pedestal on and then stack the dryer...

The thing about stacking with a pedestal is that the controls for the dryer can be out of reach for a shorter person. I have my LG pair stacked without a pedestal and the controls are above my head at 5'11".

Please realize that the washer alone weighs close to 200lbs with the dryer you are looking at about 330 lbs and thats not even considering weight of water and clothes. The manufacture pedastal would not hold up. Even biulding a platform and tring to stack would be a BAD IDEA. I said trying because no installer would take on the liability of doing that. Remember that most if not ALL service providers WILL NOT work on a stacked washer dryer. They will not unstack and restack it.

At least the washer, and probably also the dryer, are made by Samsung. The shape if the washer drum is unique to Samsung and the service manual shows parts of the control board that have the Samsung label on them.

Definitely NOT normal! We have similar LG, also stacked just like yours and no such noise or vibrations. If I have to guess, it either a leveling issue or something came loose! Are they still under warranty? Have it check out right away! Credit card companies usually double up on the manufacturer's warranty time.

Stacked sets are an impediment to access for service, although that depends somewhat on how they're installed .. i.e. in an open corner or enclosed in a converted closet or niche. The dryer must be removed from the washer for 99% of washer service issues, and for many dryer problems. Some servicers won't take the call unless the dryer is already down when they arrive. Those that will charge more accordingly.

Dan, still I would be cautious if you have children or pets around. I know Miele's are supposedly bullet proof, but things do happen with machines. When the spider arm in my Kenmore failed in 2011, that thing was vibrating and moving like mad until I shut it off. Had the dryer not been bolted to it, it would have gone crashing into the wall or to the floor, probably destroying it as well and doing damage to the room.
