Hi golddust have you tried placing a fan next to your bed hun that helps me some also i have got a summer quilt an put pure cotton on it im not saying it stops the sweats but it helps i do get a bit more sleep than iwas doing why do you refuse to give up your lattes is caffene causing you some problems i drink de caff now because of palpatations but ive managed to find a remedy for that now i take magnesium n calcium tablets every morning and that stopped them i can even have a few glasses of wine now i go to bed early get up early i only work part time now but doing a bit of something helps to take my mind of my physical problems and i get tired out as well so i sleep through the flushes a little easier i take cammomile tea right before bed as well i think that helps

Hugs for everyone! I have suffered from "power surges" and night sweats since 1987. I had just had my 32nd birthday...way too young, but a hysterectomy would solve the problems I was experiencing, I was on estrogen shots, patches and every pill strength trying to level my hormones! It wasn't until I was diagnosed with my breast cancer that I realized what that estrogen was doing to my body. My breast cancer was estrogen positive....meaning it thrived on estrogen! First medication the Oncologist took away. I increased my Vitamin E intake, I was prescribed Paxil and now I take Lexapro. Yes, they are anti-depressants but works wonders for power surges not to mention the anxiety that comes along with being a survivor!!! I found out after eating blanched soy beans and my tumor marker shot up.....soy is a NATURAL estrogen! Meaning soy products are off limits. If you have breast cancer history in your family you would be wise to avoid soy. Black cohosh is a natural estrogen, as are yams. Please don't misunderstand I am all for natural and holistic healing but,I would highly recommend speaking to your Ob/Gyn before self medicating with herbs...again IF you have breast cancer in your family.

I took black cohosh for a few months hoping that it would help with the hot flashes. It didn't help me. I believe I read that you are not supposed to take it longer than 6 months. I used vitamin E, along with omega 3 fish oil and flax seed oil in the hope it would help with my dry eyes. I eliminated the vitamin E after about 2 years, but have continued to use the fish oil and flax seed oil for dry eyes. It didn't help with the hot flashes because I still have them. Tammy

I've been having them for about 13 years now. At first, not so bad, but within a year or two really became intolerable -- several times every hour, preceded by a sick, faint feeling; and inability to sleep more than 2 hours at a time. It was difficult to do a good job at work, so I used HRT for about 2 years. After that they weren't as frequent or intense (except off and on) but I still needed relief. Soy makes them worse. Neither the cream from Whole Foods, nor black cohosh helped at all. Flaxseed did help, but not enough. Evening primrose oil does help -- I take one gelcap daily, and most days only have 1-3 flashes. My sister has had good results with Amberen -- I've never tried it myself. You'll just have to keep trying the various things to see what works for you.
