Question regarding paver patio

Abe Vigoda

I'm in the process of planning a 1,200sq.ft. paver patio (around an in-ground pool). The current patio is "chattahoochee" stone that was installed over 30 years ago and is failing terribly. The concrete underneath is in equally terrible shape, so simply removing the stone (which, even with a demolition hammer and chisel was back-breaking) isn't a viable option.

The plan is to cover the chattahoochee with paver base to get a nice, level surface, compact with a plate compactor as per standard practice, lay sand, and lay pavers.

Since I'm doing this on my own and it's a large area, I'm sure I won't be able to get it done in perfect sequence with no delays.

Question: Once I deposit, spread, and compact the paver base, will it be OK to leave it as-is for - say a week? Then, the following weekend I would deposit/level the sand and apply the pavers.

Thanks for your help!
