Here is a job I did a few years ago. She has a very small kitchen. This sink is about 21x18 with bowl width (outside dim). It works for them. It's still bigger than half of an equal double. The sink base (from memory) is 24 or 25" wide.

I put a 29" sink in a 30" cabinet. Having a sink much smaller than the cabinet seems like a lot of wasted space to me.

I agree with AnnKH. A "no" to such a small sink.

Furthermore, I would get the sink you like, not the one the fabricator recommends (is he supplying it as well?). There are several material options: stainless steel, Silgranit (people with soapstone have bought the Silgranit sink in the anthracite color so that it blends with their soapstone, a nice look), and enameled cast iron.

You will live with this sink for years. Don't get an undersized one. And don't feel rushed into choosing - make sure you get one you will like using.

I'm dealing with a tiny kitchen with a tiny amount of countertop space. So a big consideration is maximizing counter space while not compromising sink area. It is a trade off! Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Kippy that seems like a monster pendant over such a small sink! :) Otherwise the kitchen looks like mine will look with Shiloh creamy white square flat inset cabinets.

If the small sink (or similar one - I agree to shop for one you love) is important, than also go with a smaller cabinet, to maximize the storage space on each side.If you are scratching for 6" of counter space, storage space is probably an issue as well.

Thanks Joseph but the front apron doesn't appeal to me on that one. The one the installer has is 23 x 18 x 9, and I think I can find a 25 x 18 x 9 (or 27 x 18 x 9) that will work.
