ALAS! I took the piece of furniture to 2 marble stores today, and both said the piece isn't deep enough to accomodate a sink and faucet (it's only like 19 inches deep). I could do a vessel sink, but I don't really want to... The piece is just a couple of inches too shallow. Someone suggested extending the back by adding wood on the sides, but by the time I do that - well, it's just gotten too complicated and expensive. So thank you everyone for your suggestions. That looks like a 36" vanity in your photo. Do you have a dresser or buffet server in your home that you can compare with a 45" length? That is one long drawer. You could split the drawers vertically to make four, depending on the plumbing, but it'd add to the cost. I prefer to have a drawer at counter height for small items like toothpaste, floss, comb and brush, make-up. She's designed a panel right under the counter so you have to reach further for the drawer. Otherwise I'd use a medicine cabinet with either design.

Here is my 14" depth cabinet, 16" depth counter and the semi-recessed sink I had installed. I designed the vanity, and my builder/carpenter made it for me. There is a drawer to the left of the sink, and there is a pull-out in the left leg where I hang my hair dryers and curling irons on pegboard. My concerns were that I needed as much floor space as possible in case I need to use a wheelchair, and the vanity needed to be wheelchair-friendly. So I needed maneuver room! The sink I have is way deeper than your space is, at 17" front to back, but there were plenty more to chose from. Duravit, in particular, had some that may work for you. Look here at the Starck 3 washbasins from Duravit I believe this is the Duravit Me by Starck sink. They make several, one is as small as 15.75" front to back. But if you make the counter 14", you may be able to have a front belly of a sink stick out an inch or two past it. There is a Me by Starck compact sink 030050 that is 14.25" front-to-back that is similar to this. And here is a link to Duravit Handrinse Basins, most less than 14" deep. Check out the Happy D.2 Handrinse Basin, it is just over 14" front-to-back and is 19" side-to-side. Remember that you can purchase hole covers in porcelain for any sink that has a required one hole in it and you want to use a wall-mounted faucet. It is not ideal, but it is an option. Don't plan on using a stone top for your counter with a tiny undermount or self-rimming sink. Your stone cutter will say they need 3" of stone between the edge of the counter and the hole. That would leave you 8" for the sink. I did find a few that small. Duravit has some, I think, and you may find that Toto from Japan does, too. This is one big reason I got a sink that sticks out from the counter. Originally I was going to have a quartz top on my vanity, not walnut. You may want to look at some of the Italian sink manufacturers for small sinks, too. I found several there. Nameeks may have some. European design in general will give you your best bet at finding a smaller sink. When you go to look at wall-mount faucets, remember to get the distance the spout is from the wall. You may find that none will hit your tiny sink in your shallow counter, but that they all overshoot it. the only one I ever saw that is adjustable is the Hansgrohe Axor

There's a business near me that deal exclusively in remnants. I've bought and sold materials there before. The guy that runs it often times has remnants from stone fabricators, and a lot of times I see whole slabs with the sinks and plumbing still attached from remodels. The contractors would rather sell them to him for even a pittance rather than pay the disposal fees to dump them. You could ask a fabricator if there is a place like that near you. Otherwise, you could donate the wood counters with the sinks and plumbing attached to Habitat Restore. They don't pick up in my area, but you should be able to get that into a van or truck to take it to them. There are a couple other charities near me that take building materials. I was really surprised that one in my area took all of my kitchen drawers, glides, screws, door fronts, hinges, lights, counters, sink, and appliances that worked, vent hood, etc. The tops really are pretty. Could you possibly re-use then to make something for your house? Such as a potting bench (the sink hole can be used to send trash and dirt down below to a trash can, or leave the sink put a cute plant in it). Or maybe a work station for your workshop, or table for your sewing room, etc, etc. You could even use the piece without the hole in it for a large cutting board for the kitchen or make a game table or an entry bench out of it. If you decide you want to keep the cabinets and put drawers and doors on them, I would think a local custom cabinet builder would be someone to call. I have had great luck with local pros. One completely built my kitchen and then retired, but I found another local craftsman who refaced (new drawers, glides, door fronts, hinges) the vanities in my 3 upstairs bathrooms and my laundry room. If you don't know where to start to find a local custom cabinet builder, ask a highly regarded painter in your community. Even if they don't have a cabinet builder on staff, I have found that they tend to know the really good cabinet builders in the community because they see their work on all their jobs and often times work together for the same GC. My favorite painter referred me to the local cabinet person I recently hired because they are often in the same jobs and he knew how good his work it.
