Air conditioning unit placement--please help!!!
Comments (14)I hesitate to make this comment, since it sounds like you are too far along, but perhaps it will help someone else. This problem is one of the reasons that we decided to do a geothermal system. I know of a historic style house (a Deerfield house to be exact) that was built in the 80's with a geothermal system. When the well went dry during a drought (it was an open loop system), the homeowners put in AC condensers. It totally ruined the look of the house. There was no good place to put it and it was noisy. Their experience made me think about the placement of units and ultimately decide against them. My story does have a happy ending. Incorporating geothermal into my new build inspired the owners of the Deerfield house to redo their geothermal system and the ugly units are gone! They are back to beauty on all sides and no racket....See MoreHeat Pump vs Propane/air conditioning
Comments (7)Thanks for the responses. I have printed a copy of this page just for reference. Thanks especiially for the link tiger. When the time comes it looks like it will be a more modern heat pump unless they start destroying the hydroelectric dams like some of our local environmentalists want. Then I'll be back to find the right one. My stepson just upgraded at a cost that astounded me. I think I'll start now investigating local contractors. I read a lot about doing the heat balance calculations and how only a few are qualified. Was wondering if it would be appropriate to pay to have one done so I wouldn't be tied to that contractor's products? Thanks again. Nerdy...See MorePlease help me change my air conditioning filter
Comments (4)Open the grill by releasing the two latches (pull them down, they're attached to the edge of the grill and don't come off). The grill is hinged at the other end and should there hang open. If you want to remove it completely to clean and/or paint it, it should unhook at the hinges. The filter simply fits up inside the frame. Swing the grill up/closed and reset the latches. If there's no filter, then whoever was there previous to you either ran the system without a filter, or removed it before they left. If run for a period of time without a filter, the evaporator (cooling) coil up in the blower unit may be clogged. In some oddball cases there may be a(nother) filter up inside the blower unit ... which if so, that may explain why (if) there's no filter at the grill. But the point of having the filter at the grill is for ease of access to change it without going into the blower unit....See MorePoor Man's Flow Meter with VS-3050
Comments (1)Thats funny, Only problem is you are causing back pressure in the one return you are testing, making the others flow more. If you can do them all at once you may have a better number....See Moregrainlady_ks
