old treadle sewing machine ...

we just inherited my husband's mother's old Singer treadle sewing machine. It was bought new about 1906 & has model number B722749 on it & 4 drawers. In her storage, the hinged top (it has veneer over the top/not solid wood) has gotten damp it seems & the finish is cracked & pulling up. The finish on the wood area beneath the top (that folds up & down is still in good condition. Was wondering if all like this one that were made were not solid wood & if worth having the finish on the top redone?

I remember as a girl using my mother's old White treadle sewing machine & had a lot of fun using it! We also have my husband's mother's old Hoosier cabinet with the flour sifter on one side & his grandmother's old wood floor model Silvertone radio with tubes. Sadly, the newer generation of children have no appreciation for these 'old things'!

Thanks for any ideas about the sewing machine finish problem!
