Cacti/succulents sidewalk strip
Comments (33)Hi Taco Truck, It looks like you have Euphorbia tirucalli in the strip - IMO, that's a liability as it exudes sap that's a chemical irritant/burning element. It's a plant that you don't want around moving people so much, but if everyone's aware of it, it's an awesome plant for the landscape. I love your idea about the strip, and it would be great to have that as an open garden, but IMO, that's the best place to have softer plants, or at least ones that won't cause too much pain. LzdDr, Again, great pictures of the progression - wow, to plant out C. juttae and others like that and watch them explode in growth!...See MoreWhat capacity washer to buy
Comments (8)I'd look for the features you want first, and then get the largest capacity with those features you can afford... You don't have to "fill" the capacity to wash, and IF you ever need the capacity... you have it... for example... a king sized comforter? More people to wash for at some point in life? Extra wash due to pets? You get the idea... but first and foremost, decide what features you want the machine to have and then choose from what is available with those features... My set is on the second floor, not on concrete... and I have no vibration problems... but I know others here have had issues withthe same machine on the second floor... so it really is an individual situation so the suggestion to make sure you can return is very appropriate.... Personally, I'd rethink the heater issue... it comes in handy for white whites and samitary cycles.......See MoreHelp with patio. Cement sidewalk, against house, ground on grade
Comments (19)We are planning to eventually build out a deck around the other side of the house, but that won't happen for a while (there is a fire escape in the way. It's an old house, and that's a whole other story...). The lot is only ~50-55' wide at that point (pretty densely packed mostly single-family houses), so I think having too large (especially too wide) of a deck would be weird. The half patio/half deck gives a compromise of more useable space without having the deck as the whole outdoor space and running the width of the yard. Rereading your comment, though, are you suggesting to replace the stoop entirely and build the patio up to the stoop stairs? The two-stage plan would give us house-level decking and ground-level patio....See Moresupport post (jack posts) load capacity for post and beam house.
Comments (5)Ah ok, i see my question is perhaps not worded great. I realize jack posts come with various load capacities. When an engineer designs a house she needs to calculate the load barring capacity for each post based on the weight of the house and span and height of the posts. However, I also know that hardly anyone goes though this math when they build (just like we don't for determining the span of 2x4 it's standard to use 16 inch). Post and beam construction also has this type of standard. given the standard span of 9 ft and 7ft height, i'm looking for the standard load bearing capacity for the post. I'm pretty certain it's over 9100. That's a temporary "light duty" 2 part adjustable post for sure....See Morenitrox2dive
