Someone knocked on my door at 2:30am

The school district my daughter goes to has had two high schools for the past 6 years, and try as they may, the district can not get them to be friends over foes. My daughter's school is 5A and the other school has been going between a 5A and a 6A. This is the first time the two schools have met in a soccer match. I woke up around 2:30am to use the restroom (which I usually don't do) and heard a knock on my front door. I could see a shadow of someone on the porch so I peeked out the window and saw that our house had been toilet papered. A kid was outside and wanted me to know that he was going to clean it up before the rain started. He knows my daughter and happened to be driving by (he goes to her school). I went to get my phone to take a picture and he came back and said his friend was there to get him and he had to leave. The tpers also took out my garden flag stand and left a t-shirt from the opposing school. Four other houses got toilet papered, but one house got goop thrown on their deck and some ground lights broken. We will be playing at the other school and they usually play on a grass field with a limited amount of bleacher space. Today they announced they are moving it to the turf field/football field. At first I was a little tiffed, but remembered it was all in good fun (not the goop and lights). I hope the game can be competitive and everyone can just have a good time. I'll let you know how it turns out. Btw, we did not beat the rain, but got all the toilet paper cleaned up.

1st of all, all this is vandalism, and in my area, both teams are notified, and in some cases, the team that did this may have to forfeit the game. The coaches come down HARD on any of their team members involved with those deeds. Their own players get benched if there is even a whiff of them doing this stuff. (Planting flags, flamingos, signs are tolerated. TPing, breaking things, trampling things is not).

2nd, why was any kid (from either school) running around at 2:30 a.m.?

One of the houses that got tp'd has cameras and they are looking at it to see if they can recognize anyone. The head soccer mom called me to ask if I had any damage and I did tell her that the principal needs to be notified of what happened.

I would definitely stop and knock anywhere! I look out at my gardens at times and think 'what a mess I really need to clean or weed or whatever' but if someone comes by and looks at my garden and has some appreciation for gardening then they will understand that not everyday is a perfect day in the garden. I think someone stopping by to appreciate my hard work would make me happy. I always get to look at my garden not everyone else has that opportunity. I wouldn't walk into someone elses garden with a shovel and nippers without being invited to do so. Most people are very happy to share. People who garden realize the cost of gardening and are usually more than happy to share with you. Who knows what will happen next thing you know you may have an on-going swapping relationship with this person. I have a couple of those relationships with people that don't come to GW. It's quite nice the things you learn from people and even though the people on GW are wonderful, friendly and knowlegdable there are so many more gardeners out there and all we have to do is reach out to them and they may become GWers too! Sorry to hear that you are having so many problems! Remodels are one of the most stressful things you can go thru. I have done many and there are always something that will jump up and bite you! Just have to put your head down and be determined to slog thru it. Focus on what the finished product will be! As far as the contractor goes, my guess is he had more luctrative jobs come up and he is sending his help there. If is a company and he hired a sub to finish your cabinet install, I'd almost bet on it! If it were I, I would send him a note saying he has such and such a time to finish up the job or you will find someone else and deduct the cost from his final payment. I would also bill him for the issue with the microwave. He needs to know that you will give him a bad reference if the job is not finished to your satisfaction. Including contacting the BBB and any builders association in the area. I have never treated a client in this manner and I am appalled at the number of complaints about contractors in the Home forum. Let me assure you not all contractors are this negligent! Good luck with your project!

Hi squirrel, I have their clearance page saved as a favorite on my computer so I remember to look for deals! creekylis, I have thought of doing a faux window! I keep going back to real windows, too. If they are the same windows that I have on the house they can't be anymore of an intruder risk, right? As far as seeing in to see if my car is there....My big garage door has windows. (No reason for them to risk going to the back of the house.) I do need to get beware of dog signs for my gates. Maybe ideamom can whip up some pretty ones.

I wonder if those of you that have made these traps could post a photo of them? I am looking at making a bucket type one outside the pond. You dig a hole, put the bucket in, cover the bucket with a material and put bait on it. When the turtle tries to get to the bait it falls in the bucket. Kind of makes sense to me but he is in the pond 98% of the time! I am going to use meat and berries as the bait. I'd like to see what kind of traps etc. you guys are thinking about. Thanks. Sorry this happened to your house. I hope your daughter and team win their soccer game and also the state tournament. My Grand-daughter is playing in state tournament in McPherson right now. I wanted to go so badly....but the weather forecast sounded like there might be storms in the area and the a 2 hour drive back home by myself.

I do think the opposing school principal...AD...coach ...should have been notified! I hope those cameras got a good picture of them! It would be nice if they had to forfeit their game!

I agree this is vandalism but it could be that this was not the doing of the actual team members and was instead the team spectators. If that is the case, the team should not be punished. If they find that it was members of the team, then they should deal with that by not letting those students play. In my area, they would remove the players for a full year. They can practice but not play an actual game. Seems fair to me.

The game went well, but we lost, and most kids acted well. All administration was there and kept any acting up to a minimum. There was a huge crowd there which is good for the district. My daughter played her heart out and I'm really proud of her and her team for a good year.

Every once in awhile, a few trees all over the neighborhood get the TP treatment and it's always been by and to area high school students. Sometimes, the hazing goes a little too far but I'm not aware of any damage to property.

The high school junior across the street was clearly pleased by the attention when it happened to her, as if it was a popularity test. Daddy wasn't so happy, though.
