Need help decorating entry
Comments (19)Purchasing something 'grand' is the usual answer to many decorating questions. However the most successfully decorated homes have personal touches that are unique, or have meaning to, and reveal something about, the people who live there. One idea is to use photos or paintings of places you have visited on either side of the door. Depending on their size you might use 3-5 vertically on each side or more in a mini-gallery style. You needn't completely fill the space but use frames that are large enough to make a visual impact. Tape out the area with masking tape, then stand back to view, to see how large the grouping should be. Alternatively you may have some type of collectible suitable for public viewing that could be framed. I don't recommend using family photos or personal awards as they are usually more of a personal interest but framed vintage/antique items such as maps, record albums, letters, pieces of handwork, book covers, or anything that interests you or people who live in this home. Not all frames need be rectangular, some could be oval or round. Using items of a personal nature that bring back pleasant memories enriches our lives, which is what our decor should do for us. It shouldn't be only about impressing those who visit us....See MoreNeed help decorating "unused" entry way!
Comments (7)What you have isn't bad. I like that your mirror echoes your arched window. The table seems a good width for the space. Maybe hang the mirror on the wall, add a taller buffet style lamp making it a bit more cozy and less objects. You could paint the table and also the back of your door to add color to go along with the rest of your home. When choosing a rug, I would tend to go a bit larger than too small. Make sure it's a low enough pile so that you're still able to open your front door....See MoreNeed help decorating an entryway/living room in a rental.
Comments (22)My favorite is Mid-Century Modern as well! But not what the bf wants. When I think of western, farmhouse, cabin, rustic comes to mind. His dad was a professional bull rider and he wants pictures of cows/cowboys, outdoors. But he doesn't want Native American print (I had to coerce him in getting the rug). Everything could be reclaimed barn wood if he had it his way, I just want more color and textures to break it all up. I'm even down for an eclectic mix of items as long as it blends.....but is that even possible?...See MoreEntryway needs help - paint/decor
Comments (9)Thank you! Beth H - I'm including two additional photos below, one from the other side and one from the other side and above. I love a slat wall; I think the only wall to do that would proably be the one with the picture frames on it now? It's a nice, open entry, but choppy with it opening to 3 different rooms. Not much wall space; where I can reach at least. Celery - That's amazing! I tried to 'photoshop' it w/out having phote shop and it wasn't much help :) This is very helpful, thank you! I'm thinking changing to a black rug here, since all three rooms come together here? TIA!! Stacey...See MoreAnnette Holbrook(z7a)
