Agave propagation
Comments (1)On the Agave forum a man says that they can be propagated by leaf, I don't believe it, I want to be shown that it can be done. (proof) It is very difficult just to let the leaves off. I propagate mine the old fashioned way, offsets! Then I do some thing that would be called murder, I quarter the plant when it is large enough to do so, and rare enough that I can't afford to get more any other way. Some people may take out the growing center to force offsets all around the cut. I have never tried this, so if your brave and have a plant that you want to try, let us all know. I have never tried a variegated plant leaf. I doubt that it would hold true, Sanseveria don't....See MoreAgave leaves
Comments (10)When you say cactus medium, what's in it? My "cactus mix" is different than the next person and so on. I understand that it's getting afternoon sun, but do you know if it's a South window or a West window? South is best for cacti and succulents being grown indoors, on the windowsill is absolute best (the further away from the window you get, the less light the plant receives). I realize sticking an Agave in the window wouldn't exactly work... that's why there is the option to stick it outdoors in the Summer (you could probably do it in the Spring after a certain temperature has been maintained). I don't know the minimum temperature for Agaves, I believe it depends on the species or even the cultivar.... do you know which Agave you have? Just trying to think of all the different ways that we can help your Agave meet it's "full potential." In other words, find the ways to make it most happy. Planto...See MoreAgave ID & propagate...
Comments (6)#1 is Agave desmettiana variegata, the smooth agave. Notice there are no teeth on the leaf edges. It will produce seed if the flowers are pollinated. I think this plant can also make bulbils (clones) on the panicle after the flowers are done. #2 may be A. tequiliana, but I'm not sure, I've never seen one that big. It could be A. americana. There are a number of large blue agaves look that way. Yes, it will utiltimately make a tall flower stalk like the other plant, although not all agaves make bulbils on the spent stalk....See MoreAgave Aparryi 'Truncata' Leaves Turning Yellow?
Comments (3)Older leaves will die off naturally, but keeping the roots wet will kill it outright. I would have more gravel in the soil. And would definitely not have the soil moist. At best I would water only once a month till spring. Then slowly move into sun....See Morehoovb zone 9 sunset 23
