Alert -- Dee-Lish at local HD in NJ

For the NJ rose addicts on this forum:

There are Dee-Lish and a couple of other Meilland roses on sale. I planted a mail order bareroot of Dee-Lish this spring, and really should not be buying another one as I had no room. But, alas, the Boscobel I got from Regan has just become the only newly-planted bareroot that did not make it, so there Dee-Lish goes into my shopping cart. I am a big sucker for ADR roses, and I was not gonna pass this one up... hahaha...

It is not ownroot, probably grafted on the doctor.

This is the by far the best find, for me, that I was able to get out of big boxes other than my first Julia Child.

Oh, the store I found it is the Home Depot in Springfield.

I haven't even looked at Walmart. They still have some at Sam's at the original....but very good....prices. I spotted some species tulips with Spike muscari last week. Left them behind and paid full price (about $14 for 120) for crocus. I'm gambling that since the photo is poor and the species tulips look whimpy they others will make it to the sale...no need to chill the species. In my area they usually mark them down just before Thanksgiving. Lowe's and HD keep them in the heat. Guess all the valuable space is for Holiday decorations. Calloway's will often have a manager's sale. Can you tell I've got it bad :)

Big lots and Job lot are a lil different.. I know that Job lot is mainly selling Salvage items from MUCH larger places..like the big red box store ( Stuff that is not enough quantify for a display any longer, was slow to sell,or was returned in perfect condition. The seeds tho..they buy outright from Burpee unlike HD... so they KEEP them for sale until they are gone. Not send them back when they want to. BigLots buys big lots of certain items cheap from the manufacturing. Agrees to buy seconds. And so fa has no seeds/outdoor stuff.

Have two. Both are first year plants. One from Regan and one from a local Lowe. Could be because of the combination of the rootstock (Dr. Huey?) and my soil, but neither appears to be a vigorous grower or particularly blackspot resistant. Will see what they do in the coming years (if the two survive our NJ winter). The flowers are fragrant, have very nice form and color (resembling MIP), and hold their form a long-time. If it winters well here and does reasonably well fighting off blackspot, should be a keeper.

Brendan, your roses are just lovely. I particularly like the delicate coloring of Moonlight in Paris, and, of course, I love Colette, which is one I grow, too. Mine is a number of years old and quite large. You asked if bloom size increased with the rose size as is grows. Maybe some, but roses have a basic size determined by their genetics, and Colette's blooms will always be fairly small sized--but you will get many, many blooms as she grows larger. When the heat of summer hits, some roses produce smaller sized blooms with fewer petals, but there is an inherent bloom size that each plant is going to maintain most of the time.
