creeping phlox in a garden pot?
Comments (2)Creeping phlox, Phlox subulata, is extremely cold hardy, down to zone 2. I doubt you have much to worry about regarding its ability to overwinter in your container. I'd be more concerned about the ability of the container itself to withstand any freezing winter temperatures. If this is an issue, moving the pot into an unheated garage or similar facility that would avoid the moisture and temperature extremes that could cause the container to freeze and crack would be in order. Light is not an issue over winter as the plant is dormant but you would want to check that the soil does not dry out excessively. Keep it just barely moist....See Morecool cache pot for teeny succulents

Comments (12)Ha Ha! Sounds like the container gardening I did the first year I was married and had no money but lots of garage sale pots. On each stair up to my deck was a pot with a different weed in it! Some neigbors got the joke, others thought they were left over pots from the previous season! Personally my favorite is the "Hybrid Dandelion" that I found growing out of the tall weeds on a walk to the Park, It's hard to top a 3 1/2' dandelion. Miracle grow works really well to make weeds "Flourish"!...See MoreOut of control potted succulents, help!
Comments (14)Thanks you all for your responses. I live in the Denver Colorado area which I believe is zone 5b. This morning's low was 18 degrees so it definitely freezes here. I think I am going to do cuttings and get rid of the old roots and stems. So basically what I understand to do is cut the pieces I want, strip off a few of the leaves to create a stem and wait for it to scab over and then replant correct? Then I just discard the old room and plant correct? I just want to make sure I am throwing away the correct part. Thank you too for the plant ID. I figured the one part was senecio but wasn't sure about the other part that sort of looked like Jade. There are just so many succulents I was having a hard time pinpointing which one it was. and I am glad someone confirmed it was poisonous! I had a feeling about that!...See Moresocks
